Even though the Unicode 15.0 standard has not yet been released, the Unicode Consortium responsible for emojis is already thinking about what emoticons should be in Unicode 16.

Last September, the Unicode Consortium finalised the new emojis for the 14th update. A total of 37 new emoji, including gender-neutral pregnant person, lotus flower, disco button, and more, have been added to the Apple and Android phones, so there are now no less than 2000 different emojis to choose from. Meanwhile, the organisation is already working on Unicode version 15.0 (expected to be introduced in 2023), with a list of candidates Here can be viewed by clicking here.

But if you want to patent your own emoji idea, don't be discouraged, because the preparation of emoji versions 16.0 is already underway, where enthusiastic applicants can submit their own ideas that they would like to see included in the emoji range - from from Emojipedia. You can do this until 31 July 2022, but if you're thinking about it, you should read the criteria before submitting, as new characters must meet a number of requirements.

The rollout of 16.0 versions is still a long way off, with the organisation planning to finalise the list sometime in 2023, so that Google and Apple, as well as operators on different platforms, can start developing their own versions.
