As we reported yesterday, Xiaomi and Nokia have signed a new business cooperation agreement to share patents on each other's mobile technology.

The agreement includes FP4 network processor based IP routing, data centre interconnection and data centre to data centre solutions. The companies have also agreed to partner on further collaboration opportunities in other areas, such as the Internet of Things, augmented and virtual reality, and artificial intelligence.

"Xiaomi is one of the world's leading smartphone manufacturers, and we are delighted to have signed an agreement with them," said Rajeev Suri, CEO of Nokia. "In addition to welcoming this prominent global technology company to our family of patent licensees, we look forward to a wide range of strategic projects."

"As a company that is bringing more exciting technology innovations to the world, we are excited to work more closely with Nokia in the future," said Xiaomi CEO, Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi. "Xiaomi is committed to building sustainable, long-term partnerships with global technology leaders. Our collaboration with Nokia will enable us to seize its leadership in building high-performance networks, with an edge in software and services, as we look to create more and more remarkable products and services that best serve Mi enthusiasts worldwide to deliver the best user experience."

In a market where companies are fighting patent lawsuits, it was seen as better to work together rather than against each other.
