We have become accustomed to seeing more and more specific leaks and "spy photos" before the launch of a smartphone, which "explode" the internet. Almost every Xiaomi phone is eagerly awaited by fans and the world press alike. The stakes are high, especially if the next Xiaomi model is called Mi 7. Or not?
This year, Xiaomi may add another twist to the launch of some of its phones.
They started with the launch of the Mi MIX 2s, which no one thought of until the last few weeks (then the Mi 6X, Redmi S2, which were also unexpectedly released). The manufacturer had no choice but to react quickly to this year's trend, which at the time meant a dual vertical camera on the back, coupled with a brutal SoC. Qi charging support was not delayed, so Mi MIX 2s owners can be the first to enjoy the benefits of wireless charging.
While the absolute king of the MIX category this year is the Mix 2s, the current flagship of the Mi series has been a long time coming. Although it was intended to be the first Snapdragon 845 phone last year, it has finally been overtaken by almost all the big name manufacturers (to mention just the Oneplus 6, launched yesterday). Not much has changed in the specs so far (OLED, SD845, 8/256GB full version, Qi, 3D face unlock in hardware, notch) What is new in the last two weeks is the name.
Nobody thought of that option, did they?
Because it just so happened that the manufacturer, which was soaring with great sales, celebrated its 8th birthday this April.
And for this occasion, they had a brainwave (presumably over a more intoxicating dinner) and decided to make this year's Mi flagship more memorable than last year's Mi 6. How could they, since OLED displays are used by several manufacturers in addition to the notch, SD845 is also rumbled in a dozen or so models, and Chinese competitors have also gotten the face unlock sooner. As Apple did it last year (albeit on the occasion of its 10th anniversary), or Samsung after the Note 7's memorable battery problem, Xiaomi is now jumping model numbers. To make it even more memorable, the launch has been moved from Beijing to Shenzhen.
Go to Xiaomi CEO confirmed that the last day of May will be celebrated, so many saints.
We can expect Mi Band 3, the Surge S2 processor may finally make its debut in an unknown device (presumably Mi 6c or Mi7c)...

...and the Mi 7 and its beefed-up big brother, the Mi 8, could arrive as  th Anniversary Mi Phone.
We already have a picture of the box. It looks nice, it will fit right in with the other natural and white Xiaomi boxes on my shelf :D
It is not yet known for sure how different the two models will be, or whether there will even be two models in the end (Mi 7 and Mi 8 both). More official details will certainly be published in the next two weeks and we won't be relying on speculation based on assumptions on a daily basis.
Let's get friendly now with the idea that a notch Xiaomi Mi 7/Mi 8 is coming, expected in 2 weeks, with a photo of the front
How credible are the two product photos? If you ask me, the box is about 2 minutes of Photoshop work, and everyone can write whatever they want on the bottle with an alcohol marker.
I'll wait for the official Weibo message from the CEO or the official tweet from Mi.
You can already start a bet on how many more "alleged" pictures will pop up in the next 13 days, or how much fake news will be picked up as fact by some media. :)
