It's quite common among Xiaomi, but more so Redmi phones, to get P2i coating since the Redmi 7, which means that it repels water from the surface and thus doesn't get into the small gaps. Since Xiaomi/Redmi is good at water resistance, but doesn't have a true waterproof phone, it's just something fans have been coveting. Not for long!

Not only is Xiaomi working on such a phone, the engineering version is already finished and in testing. The type and name of the phone is unknown, we only know the code name, which is "COMET".

The huge IP-68 label gets the most attention, which in this case makes the phone water, dust and shock resistant. If you look closely at the back of the phone, you can see it perfectly, its robust construction, with four corners held down with screws, makes it a sure-fire work phone. Because, unfortunately, its current hardware design doesn't allow for much more...

While the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 isn't a crappy SoC, it's not a combo either. But let's approach it as something that's not designed for gaming, but for everyday use. 4 GB of memory won't let you run much, but it will be perfectly enough for the usual stuff, Facebook, Messenger, Viber, phone, texting, navigation, etc. the back will be just enough for everything, because unfortunately the camera won't be full...

Yeah, somehow phones like this never get decent hardware, so it's not going to be outstanding in camera. The largest of the two cameras is 12 MP, while next to it is an additional lens that is only 2 MP. The selfie camera is also only 2 MP, so it's not made for today's youth... and below the cameras is the rear-mounted fingerprint reader.

The phone will have a USB Type-C connector, providing an average charge of 18 W. The screen will be LCD, as it is not a high-end device, but is aimed at the mid-range in terms of knowledge.

Waterproof hybrid SIM tray with dedicated AI button in red. The SIM tray can either hold 2 NANO SIMs or a NANO SIM and a Micro SD card up to 256 GB, so you can upgrade the 32 GB back up. The AI button on the left side, which is only seen on Chinese domestic phones and works perfectly fine in the company's home country, brings in the Goolge Assistant max here at home, which you can use to search the web.

So soon we'll see a new branch of the Xiaomi family of phones, it might not be Xiaomi or Redmi, but like Poco or Black Shark, it will be a completely separate brand. We'll find out as soon as we know more, we'll be back with more details!
