One of Xiaomi's most popular phones, the Redmi Note 5 Pro, won't get Android 11, or even 10. Interestingly, a few weeks ago it received MIUI 12, based on Android 9.

A major version update was needed

It was odd enough that it had only received one update in practice, from Oreo to Pie back in 2019. This may be because it was released in China with Android Nougat, and from there it did get two updates, but from a European perspective it only got one. Given its popularity, it could have received at least one Android 10 update in addition to MIUI 12, but unfortunately it didn't.

Android 11

Of course there is a solution for Android 11, the custom, or so-called "cooked" roms. And for those who know a little bit about it, I suggest you put one up. For security and privacy reasons, mainly, but also in terms of functionality, Android 2019 and Android 20 have brought new features.

Running perfectly with the latest version of Android and the latest security suite, this is the phone of 2018. That shows how well it's done.
