MediaTek yesterday unveiled the Dimensity 1080 processor, which supports 5G and will be back in mid-range phones. Although the Redmi Note 12 series will only be available at the end of the year, it is expected that the Dimensity 1080 will be included in the Redmi Note 12 series, more specifically the Redmi Note 12 Pro will use it.

MediaTek Dimensity 1080

Yesterday, MediaTek unveiled the Dimensity 1080 chipset, the latest chipset in the company's popular Dimensity portfolio for 5G smartphones. The new 5G chipset offers good performance and significantly improved camera features compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 920.

"Continuing MediaTek's tradition of optimizing performance and power, the Dimensity 1080 offers a full set of advanced features that challenge expectations for 5G smartphone performance," said CH Chen, Executive Vice President of MediaTek's Wireless Communications Business. "This new chipset is designed to further enhance many of the features that made its predecessor great, including processing performance, camera and video quality, and time to market for manufacturers."

The Dimensity 1080 features an improved eight-core CPU, with two Arm Cortex-A78 CPU cores running at up to 2.6 GHz, combined with an Arm Mali-G68 GPU for faster performance. Whether you're gaming, streaming or browsing. The chipset's 6nm design provides a number of power saving benefits that ensure longer battery life.

With a 200 MP main camera and support for MediaTek's Imagiq Image Signal Processor (ISP), the Dimensity 1080 includes all the latest camera features that users need to take super high quality photos and videos. In addition, the chipset includes a hardware-accelerated HDR video recording engine that can process up to 4K resolution, so the generation streamer offers excellent video recording results in all lighting conditions.

Gamers can take advantage of the Dimensity 1080 HyperEngine 3.0 gaming enhancements for fast performance and seamless connectivity, as well as the on-chip AI 3.0 processing unit (APU 3.0) for optimal power efficiency. In addition, the Dimensity 1080 supports 5G networks below 6 GHz and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, so gamers can play seamlessly without interruption wherever they go.

While the Dimensity 1080 offers a number of key upgrades over its predecessor, both chipsets use the same hardware and software to help brands accelerate time to market. Smartphones powered by the Dimensity 1080 will be available in the market in Q4 2022.

Redmi Note 12

Redmi's next Note range is just around the corner. And with the Dimensity 1080 processor, we're getting a pretty good mid-range phone in the Redmi Note 12 Pro, even if it won't be able to take advantage of all the chipset has to offer. But that would be a waste, so we can also expect the Xiaomi 12T Pro to get a 200 MP image sensor.

Redmi Note 12 Lu Weibing

But can we be sure that Redmi will get the new processor? Chinese tech blogs, which have so far "got their hints right", have recently written about it. But beyond that. Lu Weibing (the head of Redmi) has also started posting cryptic posts about an upcoming powerful, but mid-range phone. It's not hard to put the pieces of the puzzle together...

From the certificates and more details were revealed, such as the fact that there are three versions, the regular 12, Pro and Pro+. The regular 12 phone gets 67W fast charging, while the Pro gets 120W and Pro+ get the latest 210W supercharging.

The release is being tipped by Chinese bloggers to precede Double 11, the huge series of Chinese actions on 11 November. Double 11 (or Single's Day), previously celebrated as Bachelors' Day, is an unofficial Chinese holiday. But what it is arguably best known for is a shopping festival celebrating people who are not in a relationship. And the global launch is expected a month later, before Christmas!
