Redmi 6 Pro unveiling

24 June 2018 - The Redmi 6 Pro is now available on Xiaomi's official website!
Although I didn't plan to write about the Redmi 6 Pro today, and not with this opening text, this is how it went. Finally, the launch is not on a weekday, during working hours, so there's time to gather the information in peace.

I don't know what Xiaomi's idea behind the launch of the Mi Pad 4 and Redmi 6 Pro was, but this much information has never been available from Xiaomi days before the official launch. Especially not about a smartphone or tablet. Either time anomaly or a newcomer's overzealousness...we don't know. I barely wrote the Mi Pad 4 prices, and put up the screenshot of the black colour, here's another subject for tomorrow's presentation, with all the information.

Let's see what the Redmi 6 Pro, launching tomorrow, has to offer:

First of all, it's beautiful. With these curves and colours, it's pretty hot. I don't know if it's my excessive Mi 8 enthusiasm, but I'm starting to like the notch.

The black front panel was a good choice, as was the use of a notch with a modest width. Yes, there's still a bottom chin, but at least you can grip it properly when you're watching a video or playing a game. The 2.5D glass cover fits nicely on the unibody metal back, which curves up to the sides and is in the usual colour shades.

Of course, the notch is not for "decoration", it is intended to play an important role in use, but more on that below.

At the bottom, a speech microphone and a mono speaker are symmetrically positioned between the microUSB connector.

On the top, the 3.5mm jack is retained, and the infraport is there. The noise-cancelling secondary microphone is also on the top.

Fortunately, the battery is 4000mAh, so you can expect 2-3 days of battery life (depending on usage). The battery supports 5V/2A charging.

That's enough for 34 hours of continuous calling, or 16.5 hours of video playback, or 12 hours of standby time, or 7.5 hours of gaming.

Redmi 6 Pro hardware

The Snapdragon 625-I don't have to tell anyone about it. Even someone who's only been introduced to the Xiaomi brand a few months might have heard of it. The slightly old and getting really boring eight-core processor still uses 14 nm manufacturing technology, with a maximum clock speed of 2.0 GHz, Adreno^TM 506 graphics processor with a maximum clock speed of 650 MHz.
The hardware supports up to 256 GB microSD memory card. Not just any way.
Yes, besides the 2 SIM cards, there is also a dedicated space for the microSD card. So if you saved money when you bought it, or just didn't have a larger ROM version, you can upgrade afterwards without having to give up the 2 SIMs.

3GB RAM + 32GB ROM / 4GB RAM + 32GB ROM / 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM

These versions will be available in the coming weeks. Returning to the SD 625, Qualcomm engineers have been given another task. Why? Perhaps the highest resolution, and another aspect ratio for the SoC to cope with. Numerically, it has to power a 5.84″ FHD+ (2280×1080) full screen. The display type is not specified, but I would guess IPS. This resolution, at this (new) aspect ratio, has 432 PPI pixel density, 1500:1 contrast, and 500 (typ) nit brightness. Quality will not be complained about, as the colour gamut

84% provides an NTSC colour gamut. The reading mode and colour temperature setting are not left out of the repertoire, as with MIUI 10 the always-on display will probably be available. )although in a less sparing way than the Mi 8 series AMOLED displays.

2 SIM, dual standby mode:

As with previous dual SIM Xiaomi phones, the Redmi 6 Pro supports dual SIM in standby mode. This means that while you are talking on one card, the other is not on the network. Full Netcom 3.0, and 4G support for both card slots (but only active on one card at a time). 4G+, and VoLTE HD voice is also supported (not allowed by your operator in your country!)

800 MHz is again left out of the network frequency support, so for the time being none B20!

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro camera

At the back, not only the design but also the camera unit is identical to the Redmi Note 5. That is, a 12 MP (wide-angle) and a 5 MP (telephoto) sensor, f/2.2 aperture lens, and PDAF phase focus are responsible for high quality images. The pixel size of the main sensor is 1.25µm, which suggests excellent day and night photos.

The pictures show a one-eye LED flash between the two lenses. Both sensors have AI with EIS stabilisation. So for bokeh effect fans, all the parameters are there.

Selfie camera

Not to be outdone by Xiaomi, the selfie camera is slightly dumbed down, "only" capable of capturing 5 MP photos, with AI face-sculpting of course. So the sensor in the notch section doesn't shine with its resolution, but the AI-enhanced software face detection can compensate somewhat.
