This year was clearly all about full-screen smartphones. Samsung, Apple, Huawei... to name just the biggest names. In 2016, this was only the prerogative of flagships (Xiaomi Mi MIX created a category), this year, it's not uncommon to see one of the 18 screens on mid-range models:9-inch display (Xiaomi Redmi 5/ 5 Plus) The full screen means, among other things, an increased display to chassis ratio (in favour of the display size), Although the latter solution can somewhat replace the biometric ID on the front panel, its effectiveness is weaker, because you cannot unlock your phone without lifting it when it is placed on a table. An alternative - not yet 100% effective today - is face unlocking (a solution Apple calls Face ID).
The good news is that Synaptics has previously announced the mass production of the first fingerprint sensors that can be embedded underneath the display. The company has confirmed that Vivo will be the first brand to use this feature on the Vivo Xplay7. Smartphone enthusiasts may wonder which manufacturer will join the solution and become the second to use this technology.Well, this question was raised when @Mocha RQ a blogger has rumoured that Vivo and Huawei are planning to use the technology in their 2018 models.
So it's clear that Xiaomi won't be using this solution in next year's Mi 7, and will focus exclusively on 3D AI facial recognition. For my part, I would consider using both solutions to be quite safe and convenient.
The excellent Snapdragon 845 chip will certainly support the integration of both solutions. Some users this year have criticized the Mi6's small display size (5.15 inches), but this will certainly increase with the Mi7 (5.65 inches, 18:9, according to tips). Dual identification would be an even bigger attraction for the manufacturer's model, not to mention the Global network frequency used in the Mi MIX 2, or the Qi (wireless) charging support that is already a certainty.
Although Xiaomi has been working on 3D facial recognition for months, it is possible that the Mi7, which will be launched in Q1 2018, will not be secure and effective enough. We'll see, probably within 3 months.
