At the August announcement, it was revealed that MIUI 13 will not be available for the time being, but MIUI 12.5 Enhanced will be. Since then, updates have been rolling out in China, and now another wave is coming.

Are you serious?!

If you haven't heard about it yet, I'm afraid I'm the one who has to give you the bad news: MIUI 12.5 is not followed by MIUI 13, but MIUI 12.5 EE. EE because it's Enhanced Edition, as we've already seen in the wonderfully named Redmi K40 GEE case.

In the summer, there were rumours that MIUI 13 would be coming in August, and then that it wouldn't come in August. As it turned out, MIUI 13 did not come, and there's no word at the moment on when it will come.

The new features are a bit different from what we already know about other Chinese manufacturers, such as the About RAM expansion, which is effectively a swap-like solution, so it uses internal storage as additional RAM. This should not be expected to work wonders. It only really makes sense for the Redmi series, where it's also for cheap phones, where it's easy to run out of memory.

Xiaomi thought of those who were waiting on pins and needles for the new MIUI, so they got one, MIUI 12.5 EE. Here's what's new:

Fast performance. More life between options.
Focused algorithms: our new algorithms dynamically allocate system resources based on specific scenes, ensuring a seamless experience for all models.
Atomized memory: a highly fine-grained memory management mechanism makes RAM more efficient.
Liquid storage: new sensitive storage mechanisms come to life and respond to the system over time.

Please don't stone me for the translation, the English changelog also contains terms I can't understand, but the point is as always: it will be better, faster, smarter, prettier, more colourful, smellier.

It's an interesting question how much sense it made to develop an improved version without version jumping, but Xiaomi certainly know what they're doing, let's hope for a smooth, hiccup-free one, brickless will be available on phones in the last quarter of 2021.

Coming to these Redmiki in October

  • Redmi Note 8
  • Redmi Note 9 4G
  • Redmi Note 9 5G
  • Redmi Note 10 5G
  • Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G
  • Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G

More to come for this Mi phone

  • Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth Edition (not Redmi)

Of course, it is important to add that China, not Europe, will be the first to receive these new versions. When we will see something of this is a question on which it is not worth placing bets. It's possible before Android 12, but it's also in the cards for after.
