There must be many users with one of the Redmi phones in the title who have been waiting for an update since MIUI 12 was announced. Don't wait...

MIUI 12 was unveiled in China in April 2020, followed by the global launch, where the most important new feature was the list of phones that will receive the new system as an update later this year. Let's recap what exactly that list was:

First wave from the end of June:

  • Wed 9
  • Mi 9T
  • Mi 9T Pro
  • Redmi K20
  • Redmi K20 Pro

  • Redmi Note 8 Pro
  • Redmi Note 9

  • POCO F1
  • Mi 10 Pro
  • Wed 10
  • POCO F2 Pro
  • POCO X2

  • Mi Max 3
  • Mi 8 Lite
  • Redmi Y2
  • Redmi S2
  • Redmi Note 5
  • Redmi Note 5 Pro
  • Redmi 6A
  • Redmi 6
  • Redmi 6 Pro
  • Redmi Note 6 Pro
  • Redmi Y3
  • Redmi 7
  • Redmi 7A
  • Redmi Note 8
  • Redmi Note 8T
  • Redmi 8
  • Redmi 8A
  • Redmi 8A Dual
  • Redmi Note 9S
  • Redmi Note 9 Pro
  • Redmi Note 9 Pro Max
  • Mi Note 10 lite

The majority of phones have already received the MIUI 12 update, but unfortunately I have some bad news, the Redmi Y3, Redmi 6/6A and Redmi 7 are missing from the list. Xiaomi in a statement expressed regret, that the MIUI 12 update could not be optimised for these devices without being jerky (laggy) or lacking some features or crashing. So they came to the decision not to release it for these phones.

So these phones now really only "boast" 1 MIUI and Android update and no one should expect any further updates. The list of phones that have been missed out will hopefully not grow any further, even though they have had 7 months to fix these bugs. But even MIUI developers can't cope with weak hardware. On the other hand, the development, or ROM cooking, is not stopping, because there are so many alternatives for these phones. You just have to open the bootloader and with TWRP you can push up the better and better Android system.
