Mosquitoes, flies and beetles can be a nuisance, especially in the summer heat. There is mosquito control, but experience from the past years shows that it is not always the most successful. That's why I decided to do things differently this year and not leave it to luck.

Xiaomi's Youpin store has a wide range of products, and it's not surprising that they have mosquito repellent. More than one, in fact, a smart version was recently released, but more on that later.

Since it's better to be safe than sorry, I bought two. So let's see what we're up against.

The first test subject is the VH 328. The box is white, and the picture shows a white model, but inside it is the Dark Blue version of my choice. In addition, there is a user manual written in Chinese and a USB cable. So in theory, you can also use it with a Mi Power Bank 2.

The second test subject is the Cokit DYT-05, which seems to be a bit more serious. It's made of ABS plastic, has a power of 3 watts and a range of about 60 square metres. In addition to the Cool Night Black machine, the box contains a Chinese-language description and warranty card, as well as a cleaning brush. Since it requires an AC power source to operate, it's a good idea to have a quality Chinese-European converter handy.

Both machines collect the bloodsuckers in a removable mosquito tray that sits at the bottom of the machine.

The first step in both cases is to connect them to the appropriate power source. Cokit's solution is ready to go. For the VH 328, there's just one more step: touch the circular touch button on the top and it's ready to go.

It really works from a Mi Power Bank 2, but for how long? I will definitely find out during the test.

The former is described as low power and quiet and is recommended for the bedroom. It is portable, uses no chemicals and can even run from a power bank.

This is what the mosquito killer Cokit looks like in the dark (roughly)

The latter also promises silence and energy savings, it can be used outdoors, and according to the promotional video it can also be used as a night light (I think the VH 328 is better suited for this purpose)

So in addition to efficiency, the test will also look at how much you can trust the manufacturers.

And last but not least, I mentioned the Mijia smart mosquito repellent, which I think the main problem is that it runs on batteries. To take advantage of its smart functions, it would need a built-in battery or, as in the case of the VH 328, the possibility of operating it from a USB port. This was one of the reasons why I didn't go for this one. Another is that, unlike the one I chose, it uses a chemical to keep bloodsuckers away, which also needs to be replaced every 90 days. Although it is possible that this will be tested in the future, it will not be tested at this time.

The test has started, and I will report back next month with the results, my experiences and answers to any questions.
