MIUI 14 is the latest version of Xiaomi's unique Android interface, with a host of new features. It's hard to keep track of all the features and knowledge, here are the top MIUI 14 tips and tricks.
Enlarged folders
You can now zoom in on folders on the home screen, so you can see more apps at a glance. To do this, long-press a folder, tap the Edit folder button, then select the folder layout you want - Enlarged or XXL.
Sidebar
It lets you quickly access your list of favourite apps and launch them in a floating window, even if you're already using another app. This can be a great way to multitask. For example, if you want to watch a video while working on a document. To open the sidebar, slide your finger inwards from the left edge of the screen.
Super wallpapers
MIUI 14 comes with a number of beautiful super wallpapers that can be used as a home screen. These wallpapers are interactive and can be applied to the AOD, lock screen and home screen. This way they provide a combined, beautiful animation.
Control Centre
In MIUI 14, you can change the layout of the control centre in two different ways. One is the old control center, which was introduced in MIUI 10, and the other is the new control center, which was announced in MIUI 12 and has a lot of new improvements. To change the control center layout, go to Settings > Notifications & control center > Control center style.
Topics
The MIUI Themes app has several new features. Likewise, you can apply parts of the theme to your device. The app also has an improved search feature, so you can easily find the themes you're looking for. All categories in the theme app have new subcategories such as New, Category, Active, Best and Color Appearance Free. These subcategories are present in themes, background images, ringtones and fonts.
Widgets
MIUI 14 comes with a variety of app widgets that you can customise to get the best-looking home screen experience, as well as access to a range of information and features such as weather, time, calendar events and more.
Gesture navigation
MIUI 14 supports gesture navigation, which lets you control your phone by dragging your fingers across the screen. To enable gesture navigation, go to Settings > Home screen > System controls > Gestures. You also have the option to turn on the full screen indicator.
One-handed mode
One-handed mode makes it easier to use your phone one-handed. To enable one-handed mode, go to Settings > More settings > One-handed use.
Floating windows
Floating windows allow you to run applications in small windows that you can move around the screen. To open a floating window, go to the recent menu, then long-press the application and tap the floating window icon. You can also use the sidebar to open floating windows.
Memory expansion
In MIUI 14, you can use a memory extension that uses part of the phone's internal storage as additional RAM. This can help improve your phone's performance by allowing you to run more apps and processes at once. You can use 2.0 GB, 3.0 GB, 5.0 GB of additional RAM. You can access memory expansion by going to Settings > More settings > Memory expansion (expansion size may vary by type)
More tips and tricks you may not know about
The floating ball gives you quick access to frequently used apps, settings and shortcuts. To set it up, go to Settings > More settings > Floating ball.
You can share files with other nearby devices using the Mi Share feature. To use Mi Share, go to Settings > Connect & share > Mi Share.
With the Second Desktop feature, you can create a separate space on your phone for work or personal use. To create a second desktop, go to Settings > More settings > Second desktop.
The Game Turbo feature lets you enhance your phone's gaming experience. Game Turbo includes a range of features such as performance optimisation, network acceleration and notification blocking.
