Ever since I got the Mi Pilot version for the Xiaomi 11T Pro, I've had a general idea about MIUI 14, but honestly. As you know I've been involved with MIUI since 2013 and well it's my love product from Xiaomi. I mean it was my love product...

MIUI 14-ről őszintén. Mit vártunk, mit kaptunk?

The release of MIUI 14, in China, there really is a lot of improvement over MIUI 13. At the time, I had a very pleasant opinion of MIUI 14, even knowing that we were going to get a dumbed-down, reworked piece of crap. For years we could enjoy all the features of the Chinese MIUI without fearing that Xiaomi CEO , in China, there really is a lot of improvement over MIUI 13. What's "new" in the global version of MIUI 14

MIUI 14-ről őszintén. Mit vártunk, mit kaptunk?

If you've looked at my article on MIUI 14 in China, you may have noticed that the picture above is a bit short on things. But I hope that's only true for the initial releases and that we'll get more features from the Eastern version later on.

Optimised storage space

MIUI 14-ről őszintén. Mit vártunk, mit kaptunk?

This is the first thing Xiaomi has brought up in the case of MIUI 14 in China. MIUI 14 is supposed to take up less space than MIUI 13. Unfortunately, I couldn't test this on one of those devices, but Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra hasn't been updated yet, so that's the source of the MIUI 13 data, but Xiaomi 11T Pro has and Xiaomi 13 came with it. Well, the system dimensions are as follows:

  • Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra MIUI 13: 10.01 GB
  • Xiaomi 11T Pro MIUI 14 Mi Pilot: 9.47 GB
  • Xiaomi 13 MIUI 14: 9.23 GB

Well, it's a breath slimmer! It takes up 0.78 GB less space, which is quite something. But we'll come back to that when the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra gets it, because I'll be able to give you pinpoint numbers. But this one will do. Of course, none of the phones had memory expansion turned on, because then it's added to this. All in all, Memory Expansion + System Logs + Other (Data needed to run the system, etc.). But there is another System value, which is not so much that it shows that it is leaner. This includes the Android base:

  • Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra MIUI 13: 14.10 GB
  • Xiaomi 11T Pro MIUI 14 Mi Pilot: 11.85 GB
  • Xiaomi 13 MIUI 14: 12.83 GB

Hmm hmm. It no longer shows it, but I'll really wait for the 11 Ultra update!

Additional security

MIUI 14-ről őszintén. Mit vártunk, mit kaptunk?

The full list is not listed, but a few examples of where MIUI 14 is more secure than its predecessors are given. In the Chinese MIUI there are over 30+ apps, in the global version it's only 10+ app data that stays in local storage only. So the app data in the image above is not even exposed to Xiaomi's servers, let alone to third parties. All calculations and data are performed and stored locally, on your phone. Another good example is that text recognition is also only stored on your phone, not uploaded anywhere. So you can copy text from images and documents that contain sensitive data. Oh yes you can copy text from any image that contains text. This is a very useful new feature.

More connectivity

MIUI 14-ről őszintén. Mit vártunk, mit kaptunk?

Well, they certainly didn't overdo it. Mi Share is more beautiful, more colourful and smellier. With this app, you can share pictures, documents and other stuff between MIUI devices in an instant. But transferring and syncing apps has also been made easier. Though here I would note that not all apps are supported like banking or containing other sensitive data. The same can be said of the Chinese MIUI 14 and it does much more than that. There, the connection between devices, BT, Wi-Fi is also faster, even the stream is more choppy and the latency has also become low. These are not yet mentioned here.

Effective interactivity

MIUI 14-ről őszintén. Mit vártunk, mit kaptunk?

Well! Well, I put the design in the last place on purpose. Anyone who upgrades from MIUI 13 to MIUI 14 will not see any changes in the interface. But for those who put it on clean or get it with that, there will be some new features. Literally a few.

Well, no icons, but we got capsule widgets. But only those apps that support it will have this interface. The system apps in MIUI 14 have them, but not all of them. We'll get more and more later on, but only for those that are connected to Xiaomi either hardware or software. As an example, the Notes icon in MIUI 14 in China has 4 shapes and there are intuitive/fun widgets. Nothing in the global... You can find the new widgets by long tapping on the blank part of the screen and tapping on the "Widgets" menu at the bottom to choose from the incoming list. Here you can find the capsule widgets by looking at the size below the widget, where 2×1 is and you can see it, it is. Yay

The other "big" new feature is the folder view/size. Until now, the folder showed the first 9 app pee icons. But now in the global it is possible to change this to one where the first three app icons are large and can be launched. And in the additional area the tiny icons of the other 4 apps are visible and cannot be launched. The folder can be opened by tapping on the tiny icons. Oh yeah, to change the folder view, long tap on the folder and the popup menu (Edit Folder) will come up. And that's it. In China there is another option where you can create an even bigger folder, where there are 8 launchable apps you can launch without opening the folder and 4 small ones.

One is MIUI 13 and the other MIUI 14. Which is which? That's the million dollar question! :-P

Update release schedule

At the launch, we got a good look at which phones will receive the MIUI 14 update by the end of March. Well the phones listed here are:

  • Xiaomi 12T Pro
  • Xiaomi 12T
  • Xiaomi 12 Pro
  • Xiaomi 12
  • Xiaomi 12X
  • Xiaomi 12 Lite
  • Xiaomi 11T Pro
  • Xiaomi 11T
  • Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra
  • Xiaomi Mi 11i
  • Xiaomi Mi 11
  • Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G NE
  • Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G
  • Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite
  • Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G
  • Redmi Note 10 Pro
  • Redmi Note 10
  • Redmi 10 5G

Nice list. But quite a few of them have already received not just beta or Mi Pilot versions, but public updates. Now the good question is when the rest will come, or what will come out in Q2 or Q3. However, at the time of writing this article, it has been unveiled in India and a slightly bigger and more accurate list of MIUI 14 has been released. Here it is:

It's a slightly different mix, but it predicts specifically what MIUI 14 update is expected by September 2023. Why are we cuckol... neglected????

Summary

So what's left out? The photon engine! One of the most important new features I suspected about MIUI 14 was that it would go global. As Xiaomi CEO confirmed in a post, which I wrote about separatelyWell, it turns out today that it's not. Not only you, I am sad too. The photon engine was supposed to run third party applications smoothly and reduce power consumption by 22%. Well, we can do without that. And also getting rid of unwanted bloatware apps, although MIUI doesn't have much in it that we'd like to get rid of here. Let's say yes. Google dialer. Although we can replace it with, say, the True Phone app, which is better and can even record the conversation. So, MIUI 14 has everyone's opinion, including mine, and not just anybody's. I'm a bit disappointed, like a lot of juzers. But we can still hope to get more of the real MIUI 14 news later. WHERE ARE THE CUTE ANIMAL AND PLANT WIDGETS????
