This morning, I gave my opinion about the new Xiaomi phone, although I still have a lot of questions, including why it is so expensive, or what is half a million forints?

The display of Xiaomi Siqu, the new concept phone with the four-sided waterfall screen (don't ask...) is not a simple curved AMOLED display. There's nothing wrong with the flexible panel, which can be folded smoothly, but the toughened glass covering the screen is not so much. In addition, it has to be folded in all four directions so that it doesn't crack and is dimensionally stable. This process is described on Weibo in Chinese, which I will now try to translate.

In the uncharted no man's land of screens, we are constantly moving forward, trying to find the best balance between dreams and reality. Can the future of mobile phones be simpler and cleaner, so that the future mobile phone form of 'just a screen' is closer to us. Today, the research continues, and Xiaomi has officially released the first of four curved waterfall-screen concept phones. The highly curved screen, 88º on four sides, allows the image to flow like water, like a crystal drop on a table. Almost all the bezels are replaced by screens, and the phone has no slots or buttons, truly realising a one-piece, non-porous future design.

The manufacturing and bonding technology of the highly curved screen has broken the barrier. With the industry's first four-sided curved waterfall screen, a bendable, flexible screen is essential, but the real difficulty is the 88º. Four-sided curved glass manufacturing and 3D bonding process. In the case of hot bending, the difficulty of polishing is exponentially greater than that of conventional 3D glass, thanks to proprietary glass processing equipment, at 800º. One piece of hot bending at high temperature and high pressure, using four different polishing machines, with more than ten times the complexity of polishing, can polish a piece of deeply curved, hyper-curved glass at 88º, and with such a glass behind it is the ultimate experiment. To attach such a four-sided curved glass piece to a flexible screen, it is necessary to overcome the bending stress caused by the extreme bending angle and extremely small bending radius, and the innovative screen design, bonding process, achieves flawless and perfect screen quality.

The whole phone is integrated and porous The new direction of the future mobile phone, the shape of the future mobile phone, depends on the shape of the screen. With the breakthrough waterfall screen curved on four sides, the integrated, non-porous design of future mobile phones is setting a new direction. With the Xiaomi Siqu waterfall screen concept mobile phone, almost all the bezels are replaced by the screen. Through 46 technologies patented by independent research and development, physical buttons and all the slots have truly disappeared. It uses ultra-thin piezoelectric ceramics to achieve external sound imaging, the industry's first flexible film-screen sound technology to replace earphones, along with powerful wireless charging, pressure-sensitive buttons, a third-generation under-screen selfie camera and other innovative features.

This is an attempt to screen
and exploring the future of mobile phones

Never stop exploring

To summarise, display manufacturing is very difficult and expensive. Of course, in its current state, but this has been done before with the ceramic back, over time all processes will be perfected and become cheaper and cheaper.
