It looks like Xiaomi's once very popular phone, the Redmi Note 5 Pro, will not get Android 10. Despite the general consensus that the manufacturer is updating two major versions of Android, the Redmi Note 5 Pro will be a refutation of this myth.

Well, I myself have been using a Redmi Note 5 Pro in my everyday life for more than two years. It's a great value for money phone, and back then Xiaomi didn't flood us with unnecessary devices, I'm referring to the Redmi Note 6 they released, it wasn't a big improvement, and then came the Note 7, then the 8, and so on...

However, software support degrades over time, as the manufacturer comes up with newer and newer devices, and the development team focuses on those. This article is also a bit of a critique of this part of the market economy, as I don't really agree with such wastefulness, with the flood of new, but quasi almost old models with minor tweaks. But that is all, let us look at the question in the title:

What about you, Redmi Note 5 Pro?

Well, it's bound to get security updates for a while, and then it's completely on its own, as it usually is. I'm not saying that you can't live with Android 9, it's just that there's more security at the cutting edge, and new features will only come to an up-to-date system sooner or later. Over time there will be security issues that the manufacturer will not address. And yes, this could affect you too, even if you don't visit dubious websites. You've patched Subway Surfers, right? :P

Fortunately, the open source world is now at the point where we can install fully functional custom ROMs, i.e. third-party versions of Android, not made by the manufacturer, on our phones, usually without any problems. But be warned, and this is the disclaimer here, only those who are familiar with the subject should attempt such things. Often a phone can be "irreparably" bricked by ticking the wrong tick. Why the quotation mark? It's possible that an Android guru can fix it, but Adam, the administrator of your town hall, probably can't, unless he's an underground Android guru. Be careful!

Why is this good?

Simple: fresh, fast, and includes other features that your phone "can't do" by default

One of the primary concerns is that community-supported systems continue to receive updates and evolve even after vendor support has ended. So yes, you can put Android 10 on the Redmi Note 5 Pro, and if you don't stick with MIUI, it's worth it. Especially if security updates are discontinued.

Another aspect could be pure Android. That is, you can get much, if not quite the same experience as if you were using one of Xiaomi's Android One devices, the Mi A series. With one difference: the (unofficial) support period is much longer, and new features can arrive for years through various cooked-up ruins, even if Xiaomi has long since taken its hands off the phone. There are no unnecessary apps, and even Google apps aren't forced on you if you don't want to put them on.

It's not worth replacing your phone for newer software features if you can easily do it without changing hardware.

Finally, a personal story: I've been using my phone with custom ROM since the end of 2018. I've been using my ROM since the end of the end of the end of the last year using my ROM for the first Pixel Experience-and now I've tried the Evolution X I run software called. I'd go back to MIUI, as I did last year when MIUI11 was released as Android 9, but it ended up being 10, and I've been happy with it ever since, and as it turns out, the new Android is no longer coming under MIUI 12. Some of the MIUI features are there in this rom, for example you can take long screenshots, something I personally really missed when I first switched. If you're interested, I suggest you give it a try! If you don't like it, you can always go back to MIUI (the disclaimer applies here in full).
