This morning, at 8am Hungarian time, a talk show started in China, where the new Xiaomi smartwristband, the Mi Band 5, was presented, or rather talked about for 1 hour. We've already gathered quite a lot about it in the previous article, but today we didn't learn much new, except for the price.

It looks almost the same as the Mi Band 4, with subtle differences. The strap, the main unit casing The front cover and screen are deceptively similar, the difference is in size and specs.

Key features of Mi Band 5:

  • More than 100 factory clocks
  • 1.1″ display
  • Optional NFC (Metro/Bus card, Bank card, Access card, Alipay)
  • Camera remote control
  • PAI + pressure + respiratory monitoring
  • 24-hour sleep monitoring
  • REM cycle monitoring
  • Women's health monitoring
  • 11 Sport mode
  • 5ATM water resistance
  • Magnetic charger
  • 14-day battery (up to 20 days)

Prices (China only)

  • Xiaomi Mi Band 5 - 189 Yuan ~ 8.100 Ft
  • Xiaomi Mi Band 5 NFC - 229 Yuan ~ 9.820 Ft

Difference compared to Mi Band 4

Is it worth switching from 4 to 5? Personally, it's worth it for me, because of the new sport modes I can now use to measure my performance. But what exactly is the difference between the two? What are the pros of Mi Band 5?

  • 20 % larger display
  • 100+ hours
  • Dynamically changing time base
  • Customizability of dial-up functions
  • 11 sport mode
  • 24-hour sleep monitoring
  • REM cycle monitoring
  • Sporadic sleep monitoring
  • Pressure monitoring (???)
  • Respiration monitoring
  • PAI vitality index
  • Women's health
  • Camera remote control
  • Magnetic charge

There are differences, if not in looks, then in knowledge. The functionality of the NFC version is still in question, whether it too, like the Mi Band 4 NFC, can only be used in China, or whether we can believe the rumours that banking transactions will be available from the bracelet in Russia and later in Europe.

The Xiaomi Mi Band 5 and NFC version will be available in China from 18 June 2020. It may be available in international online stores immediately or within a week, but of course it will be more expensive! Don't expect a Hungarian market until the global version is released, as like the predecessor, this one would have to be tweaked to have other languages on it. It's up to you to decide whether you want to do this, after a flash gone wrong it'll be good for decoration...
