This morning, the Global Launch took place in Madrid, where the two newest members of the AndroidOne family, the Xiaomi Mi A2 and the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite, were unveiled. Not too many new features were shown to those who have been following our articles, but there are some details that have just been revealed.
The event was hosted in Madrid's WiZink Center, with a special stage that did not have the usual giant projector, but two separate ones on either side.

The launch was presented by Xiang Wang, Director and Co-Founder of Xiaomi International Business. In the first 20 minutes, he outlined the successes achieved, their relationship with Google and highlighted the significance of the next model with AndroidOne's first Xiaomi phone, the Mi A1.
Taking over from Donovan Sung, who took the floor, he got down to the nitty-gritty of the new device. The Xiaomi Mi A2, as we've seen so far, has become a full-screen trendy phone and is currently the thinnest in its category, as proven in the usual comparisons against a Samsung A8.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 is indeed thinner than average, with its 7.3mm and rounded full aluminium body, it provides a very comfortable grip.
Its 5.99″ diameter FHD+ screen is equipped with Gorilla Glass 5 series, so it is sufficiently protected against scratches and minor impacts. The 2.5D bezel gives the device a nice look, but again, you'll have to hunt for a matching screen protector... USB-C is not missing and neither is the symmetrical layout. Don't look for a 3.5mm jack socket, there isn't one.
The components that received the most attention on the phone were the cameras. As with most of Xiaomi's dual camera presentations, we spent long minutes listening and watching as it took better pictures than the current competition.
The main unit of the two rear camera modules is the 12MP resolution Sony IMX486 with f/1.75 aperture and 1.25µm pixel size for daytime images, while the secondary is 20MP, f/1.75 and 2µm for low light and night-time images. And it's the artificial intelligence that decides which one will produce the better quality image.
Also at the front, for selfies, the 20MP module is integrated, supported by Xiaomi's artificial intelligence and equipped with "Super Pixel" technology: i.e. the device combines four pixels to create a larger pixel, improving the sensitivity of the sensor, resulting in clearer images.
Processor
The Xiaomi Mi A2 doesn't have a flagship processor, but it has the best in the mid-range. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 was the best possible choice for such a device. It doesn't drop the price as much as a Series 8, but it's not as far behind in performance. Xiaomi and Qualcomm are working shoulder to shoulder on AI support for the processors, so "older" chipsets are already getting this great software environment retroactively.
The Mi A2's top-of-the-line, "phlegiphile" configuration is not negligible, and it's got the maximum in both memory and storage. SD660 + 6GB of RAM + 128GB ROM is quite something!
