The Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha was a very surprising move from Xiaomi in the world of bendy fashion phones. Besides the brutal hardware, the "fully" wraparound display is just icing on the cake, but usability is still a question mark. As the display is curved, it's obviously not glass, so it's vulnerable, even with the case it comes with, and you don't get much protection. The same is true for bendable phones, where a Gorilla hardness is not a solution...
The submitted patent images show everything, but they are not that spectacular.
Fortunately, the LetsgoDigital their hard-working graphic designers, have created a 3D model of the patent pending, which clearly shows the screen scrolling sideways. Like the Mix Alpha phone, it doesn't go all the way around the back, if you can call it that, with a small strip on the left side leaving a fairly thick groove, probably for the cameras and sensors. The phone is very similar to the Huawey Mate X, only it doesn't fold out, so it won't be a small tablet size.
Their other plan is to run the screen vertically around the top of the phone. Here, instead of a thick cavity on the back to house the camera and other hardware, they simply place the gadgets in a huge cut-out. This is a bit unusual, as not many phone manufacturers are thinking about this solution and the top of the phone hasn't really been used for any information gathering. But you can use the top strip for visual notifications, as was done before with LED notifications.
The brainstorming is going on in the company, I don't even ask, interesting ideas to create a bigger and more useful display. Maybe the Mi Mix 4 plans or the next Mi phone will be similar, but again, these are just plans. They may not even be implemented.
