The Hyundai Motor Group's Boston Dynamics Spot robot dog wishes everyone a Merry Christmas. While the gesture is appreciated, there are some problems with the implementation.
Everyone is familiar with Boston Dynamics' developments, such as Spot, the robot dog that has been put to the test in countless live tests: we've seen it paintballing and jumping rope, or spinning on the dance floor with moves that put Patrick Swayze to shame, so it's no wonder that the company's latest Christmas video features the robot dog in the Get the main role.
The video posted on Twitter starts innocently enough, with a huge, seemingly ordinary Gift which anyone would love to see under the tree. But it soon turns out that underneath the gift is Spot, the robot dog, who suddenly stands up with the box on his back and walks out of the screen.
Happy holidays and many thanks to everyone who helped drive Spot's success this year! We're excited to see where you can take our robots in 2022. pic.twitter.com/wnIZKAuhbF

Although the very end of the video is a wish for happy holidays from Boston Dynamics, it's not nearly as heartwarming as the makers would have liked. To add to the discomfort, the stunt is strongly reminiscent of the Metal Gear Solid a series of video games in which the main character, Solid Snake, usually hid from the enemy under cardboard boxes.
Spot last made his presence known in October, when he filmed a clip of one of The Rolling Stones' most popular songs copied fromin a way that would have made Mick Jagger laugh.
