Although MIUI 12 hasn't arrived for everyone yet, the reasons are a bit interesting, but it should be out this year on all the phones that have been officially announced before. But MIUI 13 is already the subject of news/rumours!

Many of us have been using MIUI 12 since the first beta, which has been out for over half a year, but unfortunately the global, and now European, version has taken months to come out on most supported phones. The development of the closed alpha of MIUI 13 has already started, sometimes alleged images and videos leak out, but these are handled with strong caution and only published with thorough investigation on the Hello Xiaomi pages.

Some of the new system's features and MIUI interface innovations will be given to the Chinese beta system and the cooked ruins built on top of it. As seen above, the volume control has been revamped and finally got separate buttons for the Quiet and Do Not Disturb functions. Colours have also been dropped, it looks like Flat design will be the new trend again.

On Xiaomi's global forum, the Super Moderator of the MIUI section, Manwex, answered many questions with a short but concise post that MIUI 13 is expected in Q2 2021. Digging further into the info, and of course the release dates that have become a trend over the years, we can expect the new MIUI in late May and early June, but only for the Chinese beta. Closed and alpha versions will be out a bit sooner, for those who have access to them, but as we know, someone will leak it for sure.

What can we expect from MIUI 13? Since it will be mostly based on Android 11 (on newer phones), new features related to it will certainly be included and, as MIUI does, even more ahead of its time. Let's take a look at some of these:

  • Improved user interface
  • Chat Bubbles
  • Improved animation transitions
  • New media controls
  • Improved Dark Mode
  • Increased sensitivity to touch
  • Improved notification panel for social media apps, faster response and enhanced experience
  • Scheduling option for airplane mode
  • Improved Share menu Fix applications
  • New system theme
  • Improved MIUI Always-on Display
  • Enhanced battery performance
  • Improved fast charging function
  • More live wallpapers
  • Improved navigation gestures
  • Enhanced scrollable screenshot feature

Which phone will get the new system is still very much up in the air and it's not worth talking about it at all. But what we do know is that phones released between 2019-2021 will definitely get it, and maybe even some earlier models. There are some lists floating around on the net, but they are just speculations, don't fall for any of them! We will keep you informed about official information in due time!
