The Redmi Note 5 series is also a bit confusing because of the renaming between countries, with different versions being released in China, India and Europe, but luckily we only have to deal with the global phones, the other versions didn't really reach us.

The Redmi Note 5 and Pro phones were probably the most widely used and supported phones in their time around the world, having seen two Android updates and one MIUI version change so far. Back in the day we got Android 7.1 Nougat, followed by Android 8.1 Oreo and MIUI 11 brought us Android 9.0 Pie.

It was revealed yesterday that the closed beta stable testing has started, those who were among the testers received the MIUI 12 update via OTA update, but Android base remained unchanged.

Changes:

[System]
Optimised: full screen gestures are now ignored on the Screen Lock alert page
[System animations]
Optimised: animations in selected scenes
[Control Centre]
New: Slide down from the top left to open the Notification area and from the top right to open the Control Centre
Optimised: the control centre is closed on incoming calls
[Status bar, Notification bar]
Fixed: In dark mode, the notification bar was not displayed correctly

The update will only be publicly released to everyone after the beta test, until then be patient! No date is known at this time!
