The Mi 6 is Xiaomi's top phone of 2017 and the last 16:9 large coffee-featured top Xiaomi. The phone also currently has 2 million active users.

The Mi 8 is the successor to the Mi 6, it was the first notch, small coffee top from Xiaomi, and for some reason a favourite of slightly absent-minded developers, last time for example Windows 11 put on a copy.

Editor of the Chinese portal Mydrivers noticedthat an interesting trend has started in the second-hand market in China. The Mi 6 exceeds the second-hand price of the Mi 8. While an Mi 8 can be bought for between 500 and 600 yuan, or around 23,000 and 27,000 forints, a Mi 6 in really good condition costs more than 600 yuan, which is not significantly more expensive.

Well, why?

The author of the article doesn't go into this, but I had a few thoughts about it. The Mi 8 is a copy of the iPhone X. There's no way around it, Xiaomi copied the latest iPhone one by one at the time, and that was not a very sympathetic move for many, including me.

The Mi 6, on the other hand, is the last "traditional" top Xiaomi. It has a 16:9 aspect ratio, a large screen and a small size, all of which are features that many people still look for. Although the hardware is 4 years old, it was still only the absolute top of the range Snapdragon at the time, making it perfect for everyday use. Obviously, it's not the one to play the latest games on.

What is the situation in the Hungarian second-hand market?

This made me wonder what the situation is here at home on the same subject. We are 6 out of 6 one copy for sale I found it for 38 thousand forints, but it comes with everything, a lot of cases, foils, batteries, etc. cheapest Mi 8, the one I found costs 36 thousand forints, so it's a bit more expensive, but the Mi 6 comes with a lot of accessories. The average price is around 40-45 thousand forints. I can't really say, because I'd need a few more Mi 6s for sale, but they're roughly similar in price. The next generation, the Mi 9 that I use, starts at around 60-70 thousand forints, so there is a relevant difference there.
