They have become an integral part of our daily lives, we can slowly do everything, stay in touch, have fun and many other useful things. To work, phones need a battery that can last for at least 1 day or more. Technology has come a long way, but unfortunately they are still life threatening if they are damaged. MD Talk tech YouTuber announced on 9 September that her aunt had an accident while sleeping and died of her injuries. The accident was caused by a Redmi 6A phone. According to MD, her relative was holding her phone next to her head at night and the explosion of the phone's battery caused the woman to suffer injuries that led to her death. The pictures in the Twitter post above are for the faint hearted only, you can see the woman's body!!!

Xiaomi India started investigating the matter immediately after the announcement. Responding to the YouTuber, Xiaomi took up the matter and stated that for Xiaomi India, customer safety is the top priority and the company takes things seriously. Their teams then tried to contact the bereaved family and determine the cause of the incident.

They have also assured the family concerned that they stand by them and hope to support them in any way possible. The company has not yet officially revealed what might be behind the battery explosion. The YouTuber has also called on the Indian government and smartphone manufacturers to put in place strict safety regulations for mobile devices that can prevent and avoid such disasters.

The phone has not been found to be damaged, used with its own charger, or for whatever reason the tragedy occurred. Md says the phone was 4 months old, so it was probably a factory defect. Although phone explosions are not common nowadays, people should adhere to these strict measures to avoid such situations in the foreseeable future:

  1. Manufacturers always recommend using the original adapter and cables supplied with your phone to charge your device. The USB cables and adapters supplied with your device are optimised for the battery power of your device.
  2. Using third-party accessories can cause serious damage to smartphones, as the battery can overheat, which can lead to a short circuit.
  3. Long-term use of smartphones can lead to overheating of the device and this varies depending on the chipset of the device. Avoid long-term use of smartphones without intervals.
  4. Exposing your smartphone to high temperatures for long periods of time can heat up the device, making the battery cells unstable and producing gases that can cause the smartphone to explode.
