Like I have written before, that Xiaomi is rolling out picture syncing in overseas territories. Since there will no longer be an option to Xiaomi in the cloud to save your photos, you'll need to copy them from the Gallery app to Google Photos. This is now officially rolling out.

Xiaomi announced yesterday that users of MIUI Android devices can now back up their photos and videos in a new way. Instead of using Google Photos separately, Xiaomi is now offering users integrated functionality where they can now back up their photos and videos taken on MIUI devices to Google Photos within Xiaomi's built-in Gallery app.

"Xiaomi is constantly looking for ways to improve our experience with our software products. Google Photos and Xiaomi share similar values in providing a trusted platform for users and the moments they capture on their smartphones. Our collaboration with Google Photos offers users an easy way to ensure their data is stored securely while being easily accessed on various devices as needed," said Quanxin Wang, General Manager of Product and Technology, Xiaomi International.

"We are very excited to help Xiaomi users back up their photos and videos to Google Photos from their Android devices. With all of your memories in Google Photos, you can easily search, organize, share and relive your best moments across multiple devices," said Shimrit Ben-Yair, Vice President of Google Photos.

In addition to backing up the content of MIUI devices to Google Photos, Xiaomi Cloud users will also be able to easily transfer their existing photos and videos to Google Photos. The rollout of the feature on existing devices will begin on 24 October 2022 in Singapore via app updates, followed by other markets. Google Photos users will have 15 GB of Google Account storage (shared between Gmail, Google Photos and Google Drive). Users who require more than 15 GB of storage can purchase expanded storage and enjoy additional benefits through Google One. Users who migrate their existing Mi Cloud content to Google Photos can take advantage of Google One introductory membership trials during the migration process, which provide users with additional storage space, from 100 GB for up to 3 months.

The With Google One membership Xiaomi users will also enjoy a robust backup service, enhanced editing features for Google Photos, Google expert support, family sharing with up to 5 additional Google Accounts and other useful features. Membership benefits are constantly evolving to deliver a premium Google experience for Xiaomi users.

The point of the above press release is that the option will be provided and it will now be possible to sync images to the Xiaomi cloud in some regions. Hopefully this won't be introduced in our country yet, but don't think that the EU won't also ban this option and force us to use Google services exclusively.
