The Roborock is the name of the company that produces the Xiaomi Mi robotic vacuum cleaner, but also the record-selling S5 series (S50, S51, S55, S5 Inter Milan Limited Edition). The Roborock S50 / S55 robot vacuum cleaner was their most popular product last Christmas season according to the domestic distributor, but the sales have dropped significantly in 2019. It sold better than the two entry-level Xiaowa models (C10/Lite, and E20). This spring, the manufacturer felt it was time to update the S5 family, which resulted in the Roborock T6.

A few years ago, you could get a better-quality robot vacuum cleaner for hundreds of thousands of forints, but now you can get a quality one for a fraction of that. The Chinese manufacturer has been a major contributor to the proliferation of affordable robot vacuum cleaners, with its S50 model ranking in the top 5 in the world in all tests.
Aki még nem próbált robotporszívót, most szkeptikusan legyinthet egyet, és teszi fel a kérdést: – What is the need for this?

But those who have tried cannot do without it. It's an effective and useful tool, saving hours a week that can be put to good use.

What has changed compared to Roborock S50?

The Roborock S50 represents the pinnacle of the manufacturer's offerings, with the highest suction power, battery capacity, number of sensors, and most complex software capabilities.
It also requires little time and expertise to maintain. In addition to emptying the dust tank twice a week, you need to keep the sensors dust-free and check for tangled hairs and thread. If we don't neglect regular maintenance, the replacement of wearing parts (main and side brushes, HEPA filter, mop), predicted in the app, it will be the most useful tool in our household for years.
At first glance, the fresh T6 model looks little changed, with no noticeable differences in the pictures or the spec sheet.
The manufacturer's most impressive feature is the quieter operation, although no specific dB value is given. There is little difference in physical size, and it is identical in performance to the current S5 series.

The two pictures clearly show that there are no fundamental differences, only the design has undergone a facelift. Roborock T6 new graphite and steel grey plastic paint for a metallic effect. The logo has been symmetrically positioned in the centre of the back, and the three buttons, which were previously separate, have now been combined into a single unit in a rounded rectangle.
From the pictures, the sides haven't changed much either, with the top edges being accentuated with a more pronounced chamfer. The beveled angle of the bumper element fitment has been given an even steeper angle. The LDS laser unit is perhaps the most accentuated, so the metallic circular milling solution design is particularly pleasing from the image.

Selective cleaning

Selective cleaning is the biggest software improvement for the T6 / S6. The new development allows you to separate and name the rooms in your house, for which you can set a separate cleaning time.

How does it work in practice?

The vacuum cleaner will map your home, and on the finished map you can select the rooms you want to name. We can then choose where the vacuum cleaner should clean and when. We can even schedule each room separately.

For T6, the new Map Management 3.0 can now store multiple maps, which can be recalled when you need to clean or modify them. A XiaoAI voice control sounds good, let's hope the Global version will understand English and be compatible with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.

Disposable mops (wiping cloths) are not washable, once soiled, simply throw them away. It will probably be cheaper to replace and require less maintenance than the S5.

Meghajtás: Új kerekek – német minőség

A little curiosity: The lower tyres (the two drive wheels) were developed by Covestro (formerly Bayer) in Leverkusen. Bayer 04 Leverkusen” must sound familiar.
Covestro also supplies the plastic components for the Xiaomi 90 Fun suitcases. This means that the Germans are also involved in the production of Roborock robotic vacuum cleaners, albeit at a minimal level.
Although it won't climb stairs, higher ledges and thresholds are expected to be easier to negotiate than before.

Will there be a Global version?

According to information available so far, the T6 is only intended for the Chinese market. Although Geekbuying is already offering it, it's worth waiting to get it. On the one hand, because of the still high price of 175e HUF, and on the other hand, because of the lack of EU server support, not everyone can integrate it into their smart home system.
The price in China is at least 30% higher than the S5 series available in the UK. It will surely be a few months before this is reduced or the Global version is released.
We will be sure to let you know as soon as we have more information, or the opportunity to test it.
