You hear about DXOMARK's tests hot and cold, but let's face it, they are the only team that tests phones thoroughly and professionally. And today we've got the best of this year's Apple line-up, perhaps the best of the best, the iPhone 13 Pro. It almost caught the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, but still came up short.

Xiaomi vs Apple

Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra DXOMARK was in first place for quite some time until the Huawei P50 Pro arrived and was beaten by 1, that is 1 point. To my memory, but correct me, Apple phones have never made it into the top 5 until now. The list was dominated by the Xiaomi-Huawei duo for good measure, with the occasional gem from a better-known brand sneaking in.

Apple iPhone 13 Pro - DXOMARK test

Apple iPhone 13 Pro DXOMARK

  • Primary: 12 MP sensor, 1.9 µm pixel, 26 mm equivalent f/1.5 aperture lens, sensor shift OIS, Dual Pixel AF
  • Ultra-wide: 12 MP sensor, 13 mm f/1.8 aperture lens, PDAF, 2 cm macro
  • Tele: 12 MP sensor, 77 mm f/2.8 aperture lens, OIS

The primary camera module has a larger sensor and faster aperture than the 2020 models. It also uses sensor offset OIS, which was only available on the Pro Max last year. The ultra-wide camera has the same sensor size as last year, but with a faster aperture and PDAF autofocus compared to the iPhone 12 series' fixed-focus lens. The size of the sensor remains unchanged in the telephoto module, but Apple has increased the focal length, and the tele now offers three times the optical magnification of the primary camera.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra - DXOMARK test

Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra DXOMARK

  • Primary: 50 MP 1/1.12″ Quad-Bayer sensor, 1.4 µm, 24 mm equivalent lens with f/1.95 aperture, Dual Pixel Pro AF and OIS
  • Ultra-wide: 48 MP 1/2-inch sensor, 0.8 μm, 128° lens with f/2.2 aperture
  • Tele: 48 MP 1/2-inch sensor, 0.8 μm, 120 mm equivalent lens with f/4.1 aperture, OIS

Compared to the Mi 10 Ultra, the new model offers some important changes in the camera department. The 1/1.12-inch Samsung ISOCELL sensor in the primary camera is slightly larger than the 1/1.32″ version used last year and is close in size to sensors found in enthusiast compact cameras such as Sony's RX series. The new sensor also offers Dual Pixel Pro auto-focusing, which separates all pixels vertically and diagonally (only vertically in standard two-pixel systems) to measure contrast.

In DXOMARK's tests, they list their opinions on the device, with lots of pictures and videos. But there's an important column or two, with pros and cons. Well, it's quite different for the two phones:

Benefits

  • Apple iPhone 13 Pro - 9 pieces
  • Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra - 6 pieces

Disadvantages

  • Apple iPhone 13 Pro - 8 pieces
  • Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra - 5 pieces

Well, that's fine then, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra better camera than the Apple iPhone 13 Pro. And then let's see how much it all costs, the official prices of the phones in our country:

  • Apple iPhone 13 Pro (6/128 GB) - $424.99
  • Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra (12/256 GB)- 529.990 Ft

Yes, yes, the Xiaomi is more than a hundred times more expensive than the Apple. But is the better camera worth that much, or is there something else that's so much better? Screen, speaker, microphone, memory, back, processor and I could go on. The only way to decide is to use them both at the same time or in direct succession in everyday life. I see very little chance of that here, but I'm sure someone will make a good comparison.
