Xiaomi, a leader in the global technology industry, today published its 2020 Sustainability Report (the "Report"), detailing the company's sustainability strategy and how it is being implemented in practice.

The over 30-page Sustainability Report outlines Xiaomi's extensive sustainability activities, environmental protection, social responsibility and humanitarian aid work. It also reports on Xiaomi's compliance with accessibility, data security and privacy requirements. The Report describes the effectiveness of Xiaomi's sustainability initiatives in the Chinese and overseas markets.

"Since its founding in 2010, Xiaomi has been committed to making the world we live in a better place. In 2020, we joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNCG) and pledged to follow the ten principles of corporate responsibility set out in the UNCG." - explained in the report Xiaomi CEO, President and CEO of Xiaomi. "In our Report, you can also read about how our management ensures that Xiaomi's approach to sustainability is mainstreamed throughout the company. It also includes how we treat our employees and suppliers, how we engage with our communities, and how we respond to global environmental challenges."

Xiaomi believes innovation is crucial to creating sustainability and tackling global challenges. In line with this, Xiaomi, for example, is actively involved in the development of an earthquake prediction system to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The innovation was first deployed in China, but will soon be available in other earthquake-affected regions of the world. It will allow Xiaomi smartphones running MIUI (11 and above) and Mi TVs to notify users of an impending earthquake within seconds. Along with the alert, the feature will also provide information on where the nearest emergency shelter is located, how to reach the local disaster management or ambulance, and the progress of rescue efforts in a crisis situation. During 2020, Xiaomi MIUI Earthquake Alert detected twenty-nine earthquakes with a magnitude greater than 4 on the Richter scale and issued more than 9.4 million alerts.

The Report also shows what Xiaomi has done to integrate environmental considerations into product development and manufacturing. For example, Xiaomi used 60 percent less plastic in the production of the Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro smartphones last year. The Report also highlights that energy efficiency has become a key feature of more than 40 of Xiaomi's commercially available products over the past year. According to the document, Xiaomi's products comply with local and EU environmental and safety standards, including CE, REACH, RoHS and WEEE certifications, in all countries where they are sold.

In 2020, Xiaomi also took an active role in the fight against COVID-19, donating tens of thousands of FFP3 face masks to the Italian government in March 2020 and helping people in the Veneto region, which was severely affected by the epidemic. The company has also sent shipments to France, the UK and Poland. When schools in Europe were forced to close and switch to online education, Xiaomi Spain donated 1,000 smartphones to the Spanish Ministry of Education, which were distributed to children across the country.
