Many are waiting for the MIUI 12.5 update like they did for the slow but sure arrival of the Trabi. Okay, it's not that epic, MIUI 12.5 doesn't bring any redemption, just optimisation and some tweaks - that's why it's not called MIUI 13.

The 2018 flagship Mi 8 will also soon receive the MIUI 12.5 update, for now in China.

This means that sooner or later it will reach domestic owners, but sooner rather than later. After the Chinese release, the system still needs to be made EU-compatible, and there is still the beta testing, which will take at least a month.

The version number in stable beta in China is V12.5.1.0.QEACNXM.

The Mi 8 originally came with MIUI 9 and Android Oreo, and has since been updated to Pie and Android 10, where it has remained. MIUI has been 10, 11, 12 and now 12.5. Don't expect any more updates.

As it is top-of-the-range hardware, it still holds its own today, despite its age, so it might be worth looking for custom ruins - luckily there are plenty of them.
