In a previous article we published the poster of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4. At the end of it, I mentioned that there is a TV on it, just as a curiosity. Now I just remembered why there are two Xiaomi products on the poster.

Let's take a closer look at the picture. The guy is holding the phone, pointing it towards the TV. There's nothing special about this yet, it's probably infra in the phone. But the environment doesn't give any indication of that, it's more like some high-tech wonder in the background. And it is none other than UWB!

Xiaomi has already unveiled its smart home control based on UWB technology in October 2020. Ultra-wideband UWB, the next generation of connectivity technology with highly accurate positioning. A smartphone that supports Xiaomi's UWB technology can locate smart devices with centimetre accuracy. It senses spatial positioning, just like the human eye, and can pinpoint the location of any smart device with an angular measurement accuracy of ±3°, similar to indoor GPS.

UWB chips and antennas embedded in smartphones and smart devices are needed to achieve this. Unlike existing narrow-band communication systems, Xiaomi's UWB boasts an ultra-wide bandwidth of 500 MHz, which transmits information and improves positioning accuracy - the technology used in radars.

In addition, Xiaomi UWB technology demonstrates outstanding security performance thanks to its ultra-wideband and narrow pulse characteristics, making it extremely difficult to signal in space. At the same time, Xiaomi has a distance algorithm for greater accuracy. These features also enable ingenious practical applications. In the future, Xiaomi's UWB technology will complement Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to meet users' wireless connectivity needs in various situations.

This is all well and good, Xiaomi Mi 10 versions already include UWB technology. The kicker is that I'm a bit doubtful that the picture is of the Mi Mix 4 phone. I wouldn't shoot down the punchline that much with a poster of this quality. It looks very case that that's just a previous series in the picture and the Mi Mix 4 will look completely different. We've got a few more days to wait for that, let's hope something else leaks about the new Mix phone. But we'll find out on Tuesday!
