The Mi 9T Pro is the sixth member of the Xiaomi Mi 9 family. It's based on the Redmi K20 Pro, a Chinese domestic handset that was unveiled on the motherboard back in May.

Thanks for the test phone xiaomishop.hu for webshop, where you can buy it with 64 and 128 GB of storage, in three colours.

I had the phone for a little over a week, and in that time I got to know him quite well, both inside and out. The final conclusion I would like to draw now, which I will explain in detail in the rest of this article, is that this phone did not convince me at all, I did not feel "this is for me". Let's see why.

Externally, there is nothing wrong with the phone at all. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 covers the front and back, it's scratch and impact resistant, the sapphire glass covering the camera lenses is also very durable, only the aluminium frame is a bit fragile. This is illustrated very well by our favourite phone tester Youtuber Jerry Rig.

The colour scheme on the back is beautiful, although I also preferred the flame red, I would have preferred the glacier blue, but that's just a personal preference. The grip is comfortable without a case, although for fans with drier hands the glass can be a little slippery, but this is compensated for by the case included in the package.

Thanks to the 4.000 mAh battery, the phone is pleasantly "thick" (8.8 mm), it doesn't cut your hand like the Mi 9. The case adds a shovel to this and it won't even be slippery, but it collects fingerprints well.

The 4,000 mAh battery can be charged at lightning speed with the included 18W fast charger, but if you need more, you can buy a faster one as the Mi 9T Pro also supports 27W wired charging. Unfortunately, you can't charge wirelessly, it doesn't support it.

One interesting part of the phone is the selfie camera. We've already seen the pop-up camera module in the Redmi K20 and the Mi 9T. It features a 20 MP image sensor, 0.8 μm pixel size, ƒ/2.2 aperture, ambient backlight, sapphire glass enclosure, and features Panorama Selfie, Palm Shutter, AI silhouette detection, Wide Angle Distortion Correction, Front Camera HDR, Brightness Correction, Selfie Timer, Face Detection, Magic Mirror, Age Recognition, Full Screen Camera Frame, Eye Light, AI Beautification, AI Feature Setting, AI Makeup, AI Portrait Mode, AI Scene Detection, AI Studio Lighting.

In natural light, in darkness and in lamp light it performs quite well, 20 MP resolution is fine, colours are in place, but I'm not happy with the night images. Well, not a CC9 Meitu version where selfie quality is the key...

The rear camera, as in the Mi 9, is excellent, taking brutally good pictures in daylight, but at night the AI is noticeably underpowered compared to the night function. There is a huge difference between the two, with the AI trying to get the best out of a single image, and the night mode producing an image from multiple images by matching dark and light details. While the AI produces the image instantly, the night mode photo storage takes a little while to complete. But never mind, the result is amazing! An example:

(Unfortunately, it was only when I was writing the article that I found out that the recording was not automatic, I'll make up for it in time!)

However, one of the big problems with Xiaomi phones is the horrible distorted sound of loud concert recordings, but it performed surprisingly well, even in front of the speakers the sound didn't get terrible!

As I wrote, the daytime images are amazing, the SD855 does the job quickly in all areas, you don't have to wait for anything like you would with the weaker 7 or even 6 series processors.

Main camera: 48MP, 0.8 μm, 1/2-inch sensor, FOV 79.4°, f/1.75 aperture, 6-piece lens, AF, supports 4-in-1 Super Pixel (12MP, 1.6 μm)
Secondary camera: 8MP telephoto lens, 2x optical zoom, OV8856, 1.12 μm, 1/4″ sensor, FOV 44.6°, f/2.4 aperture, 5 piece lens, AF
Tertiary camera: 13MP, 124.8°, ultra wide angle camera S5K3L6, 1.12 μm, 1/3″ sensor, FOV 124.8°, ultra wide angle, f/2.4 aperture, 5 piece lens

Its screen is the familiar notchless one, as its selfie camera rises out of the casing, so there's no need for an island. At 2340 x 1080 FHD+ resolution, it delivers great quality with 403 PPI pixel density, 600 nit brightness and a 60,000:1 contrast ratio, making it easy to see and read in sunlight, as it can also automatically set a separate sunlight mode.

HDR display, Daylight mode 2.0, Night mode, 256 colour temperature settings, Reading mode, TÜV Rheinland® low blue light mode with VDE certification, Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5 protection.

The under-screen fingerprint reader is fantastically fast, never made a mistake, of course, all this is true without protective glass. But! A good quality glass doesn't hinder the accurate and fast operation, you won't notice anything like with the predecessors or the first Mi 9/SE.

Let's go a little further in. The Mi 9T Pro's Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor does what you'd expect. It's also in the top 10 in AnTuTu with a nicely loaded system, Facebook, Gmail, Messenger, Hangouts, Webshop apps, etc., that keep pushing push notifications. Syncing to Mi and Google account, so not in the deep freeze with shit deleted and disabled system as sometimes happens during a factory test

Compared to the Mi 9 SE SD712 processor used on a daily basis, the system is smoother and smoother. Not significantly, but noticeably. Apps and games load faster, run faster, run smoother, have more FPS and don't crash at higher resolutions. Let's just say we'd look good... this subtle difference is also noticeable when shooting stills and video, e.g. the 48 MP, night mode, slow motion makes the phone faster to resume using.

I had the pleasure of taking the phone on a long trip, GPS navigation, mobile internet, BT music, for more than 6 hours. With 260 km of navigation, web browsing, music playing, photography, I think the 4.000 mAh battery performed very well.

The gameplay experience is a blast, as you'd expect from such a rough processor. And Game Turbo takes it up a notch, not only can the system be fine-tuned to serve the game to the max, but you can even set touch response, multiple touch sensitivity, non-touch area, visual enhancement for apps separately.

But what surprised me the most was the lack of MIUI apps. After 6 years of using MIUI beta, it was a huge disappointment to see that the Dial, Contacts and Messages apps were taken from the stock droid, rather than the fantastic MIUI apps we're used to using to make calls, text and store contacts. But we have lost something else!

It has everything a good phone should have, 3.5mm jack, USB Type-C, two microphones. Unfortunately the Infra is missing, but never mind, you only use it in exceptional cases. But it's interesting that it's included in the mid and lower categories...

Its SIM tray only holds two Nano SIMs, no storage expansion is possible, but fortunately the tray is sealed all around, so water won't seep in. Otherwise, the phone is drop-resistant, although it doesn't have an IP rating, but it has a water-repellent nano coating on the outside.

Summary

The Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro is a great phone. Relatively nice, fast, damn good camera, dual GPS, large AMOLED display with fingerprint reader underneath. It's a good phone for everything, if only that damn stock droid stuff fiasco would be fixed and it would be a lot snazzier. Is it worth the price? Meg, if you want the best and fastest, with a full screen without all the bells and whistles, big battery, fast charging, fancy selfie camera...
