Xiaomi has published its sales results for the first quarter of 2018. Sales in the entry-level category increased.
Several manufacturers, including Xiaomi, have released official sales figures. These show that 28,431,000 phones were sold, which is quite a good result.
From smartphone sales 23.239 billion yuan ($3.6 million, or $981,180,000 at today's exchange rate), which is astonishing even with dozens of other product categories, even with the extremely low margins. The margins for smart home products, clothing, lifestyle, food, vehicles are not so tight, so we suspect that the manufacturer will not have any major problems with the repayment of the loan taken out.
According to the CDR briefing, between January and March 2018, Xiaomi Group's R&D expenditure was 1.104 billion yuan, accounting for 3.211 billion yuan of total revenue. In 2017, research and development expenditure amounted to 3.151 billion yuan, which represents 2.751 billion yuan of total revenue. It is worth noting that Xiaomi launched and sold smartphones in different price segments in the first quarter of the year. The entry-level category is still the most important segment for the company, with more than 11 million units sold in the sub-799 yuan ($125) segment. Their total revenue is 5.422 billion yuan.

The lowest-selling models are Xiaomi's flagship smartphones, priced at 3,000 yuan ($468) or more, with only 496,000 units sold, generating 1.315 billion yuan in revenue. In contrast, Redmi 5A category models, priced between 800 yuan ($126) and 1,299 yuan ($205), sold 10.909 million units. Its revenue was 8.861 billion yuan. Keep in mind that these sales are only for the first quarter of 2018, so sales of the MIX 2s and Mi8 trio are not included.
It is expected that the Redmi 6 series, as well as the upcoming Mi Max 3, which has passed the 3C certification, will further boost sales and set another record by the end of the year.
