Although we wrote years ago that Xiaomi gets into the electric car business, it was reported that the company was sponsoring a company called Xiaopeng Motors. Later has become an official partner of the Chinese car manufacturer Bestune, but now the iFengNews report claims, citing several sources, that Xiaomi is planning to build its first self-built car, although this information is still very vague and no concrete details have been provided. It says that nothing is set in stone yet and that many things are unclear, but what it does state quite specifically is that the project is being Xiaomi CEO, the founding CEO of Xiaomi.
However, the information has a background. Back in 2013, Leu Jun met Tesla CEO Elon Musk twice, and the interest seems to have continued. The report refers to the whole plan as being more likely to happen if the smartphone market stagnates, while the electric car market grows.
Naturally, after the report was published, several people contacted Xiaomi about the news, who did not respond. So for now, this remains just an interesting rumour from Xiaomi.
