A week ago we wrote a big list of Phones receiving MIUI 13 updatebut we may have to amend it. In fact, a rumour started circulating in China today that the 2019 models will no longer get it.

The news, or rumour for the time being, is that the Chinese mydrivers.com news portal, from which we usually get a lot of tweets. The site, which mostly publishes credible info, today said that MIUI 13 will not be coming to a number of popular phones.

MIUI 12.5 is already up and running on a number of devices in China, so far in beta form, but a week ago the stable branch started rolling out. Developers are under a lot of pressure, with a lot of phones to update and time to dedicate to the new system. The last 2 years have seen the release of several new phones, for which new users have a right to demand the new system.

Upgrading MIUI and updating old phones has become a matter of prestige, but unfortunately we have to admit that the Chinese don't like the phones we like. So they have to abandon upgrades to series that are important to us. Such a decision has been made, the following phones will not receive the MIUI 13 update as it stands:

  • Xiaomi Mi 9 family
  • Redmi 8 family
  • Redmi Note 8 family
  • Xiaomi Mi Mix 3

The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE stands out from this, which has already received the stable MIUI 12.5 update and will also get MIUI 13. Why? Because it's a phone with a small screen and a huge fanbase. Plus older models like the Mi Mix 2S and Mi 8 family will get it too!

Conclusion

I know you'll be right to be outraged that you have one of these phones and you're not getting a new MIUI. But you have to understand that Xiaomi has to decide which phones to continue supporting, and it's not a simple decision. The obvious thing to do is to suspend the update of the ones with the least number of active ones. This is unfortunately...
