Poco is one of Xiaomi's sub-brands, which gained a lot of popularity when it launched its first device, the Pocophone F1.

The F1 is a compromise device in many ways. In terms of materials, camera, display, it's not particularly outstanding, but there's 1 specification that it was unbeatable in when it was first released, and that's raw power. Poco's first handset got the top Snapdragon available at the time, the Snapdragon 845, and a price tag of 115k. If the aforementioned compromises are acceptable to you, then a price of around 50-60 thousand forints on the second-hand market is an even friendlier price than the previous one, especially since we're still talking about a device with a top 2018 processor.

And what is left of this momentum? Not much, and this is mostly reflected in the fact that Poco is releasing devices that have already been released, just under a different name, perhaps with a minimal modification.

Poco X2: Redmi K30
Poco F2 Pro: Redmi K30 Pro

And here's the latest: Poco M2 Pro: Redmi Note 9 Pro.

Specifications:

  • Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 720G eight-core processor
  • 4/6 GB RAM (LPDDR4x)
  • 64/128 GB of storage (UFS 2.1)
  • 6.67" IPS display FHD+ (1080 x 2400) / Triple Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5 protection
  • 5000mAh battery, 33W fast charging support
  • Quad AI main camera (48MP+8MP+5MP+2MP) | 4K video recording |
  • 16MP front-facing camera
  • 2 + 1 card slot (2pcs nanoSIM + 1pcs microSD)
  • fingerprint sensor mounted on the side - under the power button
  • 3.5mm jack connector, USB-C port, infraport
  • splash-proof design
  • NFC

Picking out the differences:

  • 64 MP, f/1.9, 26mm (wide)1/1.72″, 0.8µm, Instead of PDAF
    48 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/2.0″, 0.8µm, PDAF main camera
  • 5000 mAh battery instead of 5020
  • 33W fast charge instead of 30

That's it, nothing more.

Indian prices:

  • 4GB + 64GB: ₹13,999, which is about 58 thousand forints
  • 6GB + 64GB: ₹14,999, which is about 62 thousand forints
  • 6GB + 128GB: ₹16,999, which is about 71 thousand forints

What is the point of using a different name for almost the same device? In my opinion, nothing. Just to maintain a sub-brand, they could resort to more creative means, for example to give a worthy successor to the Poco F1. Make no mistake, the Poco F2 Pro is an excellent phone, and a test has been carried out, which you can read here, but especially' in price it didn't deliver what I would expect from it as a successor, although it's true that it's still a lot more friendly than the Mi 10's price tag.
