If you delve a little into the world of Android, you're bound to come across custom ruins. We wrote about this in a previous Article from, so I'll just briefly summarise what these things are called in Hungarian as unique or cooked ruins.

Custom ruins are unofficial ruins that are not developed by the manufacturer for a specific phone, but by the community around the type. The advantage is that they are usually fresher than the factory system and sometimes even better optimised for the phone, the disadvantage is that, depending on the vendor, they may void the warranty if the software has been modified.

You don't need an engineering degree to install a custom ROM, but you do need some basic IT knowledge. There are plenty of tutorial videos on the internet on how to install it, but you should be careful with these, and check the date of the upload, and not do it from a video from 3 years ago, where the links below the video may not work anymore.

The biggest site dealing with ROMs is xda-developers.com, which recently published a summary list, showing devices for which a custom ROM based on Android 11 is already available.

These include the following Xiaomi devices:

  1. POCO F1
  2. POCO X2/Redmi K30
  3. POCO X3
  4. Redmi 3S
  5. Redmi 4A
  6. Redmi 4X
  7. Redmi 5
  8. Redmi 5 Plus/Redmi Note 5
  9. Redmi 5A
  10. Redmi 6 Pro
  11. Redmi 7 and Redmi Y3
  12. Redmi K20/Mi 9T
  13. Redmi K20 Pro/Mi 9T Pro
  14. Redmi Note 4
  15. Redmi Note 5/Redmi Note 5 Pro
  16. Redmi Note 6 Pro
  17. Redmi Note 7/7S
  18. Redmi Note 7 Pro
  19. Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8T
  20. Redmi Note 8 Pro
  21. Redmi Note 9S/9 Pro IndiaRedmi Note 9 Pro Max, and POCO M2 Pro
  22. Xiaomi Mi 5
  23. Xiaomi Mi 5s
  24. Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus
  25. Xiaomi Mi 8
  26. Xiaomi Mi 9
  27. Xiaomi Mi A1
  28. Xiaomi Mi A2
  29. Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite
  30. Xiaomi Mi A3
  31. Xiaomi Mi Max and Mi Max Prime
  32. Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S
  33. Xiaomi Mi Mix 3
  34. Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 and Mi Pad 4 Plus

This list only includes the roughly finished ROMs, not including the Redmi Note 3 Pro, which debuted almost 5 years ago and comes with Android 5.1.

No inclusion in this list is justified because this ROM is far from perfect, but the improvements are promising. Don't forget that the latest Android version for this phone is 6.0 from the factory, which is 5 major versions newer than the previous version.

And, what is the record holder? To the best of my knowledge, it's the Samsung Galaxy S3. Yes, Samsung's top of the range model from 2012, which was released with Android 4.0 and has been updated to 4.3. Android 11, by comparison, is an 8 major versions newer system. Back in the day, it was the Galaxy S2 that took the lead, with the factory system based on Android 2.3, back in the days when Android versions for phone and tablet ran under separate major versions. I haven't found any Android 11-based ROMs for this device, but that doesn't mean that there aren't necessarily any, for example the Redmi Note 3 Pro ROM mentioned above can't be found on XDA-Developers.com.
