A new SOS feature was added to the closed beta versions yesterday which allows us to contact a pre-determined number in case of emergency. At the moment this feature is available to 5 devices: Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi MIX 2, Mi 6, Mi 5 and Redmi Note 4X.
The SOS feature in the Chinese developer ROM can be accessed by pressing the power button 5 times and then it will send the help information to the emergency contact number.
You can activate the feature by going to Settings – SOS. You can set this contact here and the person gets our emergency call in writing or on tape but it can even send us our call log if we want.
Tests are being carried out at present and the SOS feature will foreseenably be added to all models by the end of September. For the time being, it will be available for the Chinese models but later global models will also get it.
