Our weight is not always the friendly value we always want to know. Certainly not how much fat we're carrying, or a program coldly telling us that something is wrong and lecturing us on what we should be doing. The Xiaomi Smart Scale 2 does just that. It takes our weight, calculates body mass index, fat amount, muscle, bone mass, water percentage... do I need this?
This is the second in a series of Xiaomi scales, the first being a nice glass personal scale for weighing. Its knowledge was exhausted in this one, it measured your weight and with the height you entered, Mi Fit calculated your BMI.
In comparison, the new, smarter version is, shall we say, quite puritanical. Here's the Xiaomi Smart Scale e!
The box from far away was a bit shaken, but it did the job well, delivering the scales to us intact. On two sides is a picture of the scale, with a little house-hat-tickle on the edge, which is probably the product's data.
It's great to read that it can only connect to phones above Android 4.4 and iOS 8.0 and needs 4 AAA batteries to work.
Unpacking the box, we breathe a sigh of relief to see that the scale is held captive by strong, hard cardboard, so it has survived a few thousand kilometres.
Out of the box, the small cardboard box contains the description of the scale and the four AAA batteries included. The scale is enclosed on both sides by hard cardboard.

Inserting the batteries is no more difficult than any other electrical gadget, just turn it over and open the small door at the bottom of the device. Inserting the batteries correctly is infinitely simple, place the flat half against the kick half and insert against the spring. When all four are in place, close the door and you're ready to go, the scale is working.
It's only a few more steps to face the tantalising reality of what your body's fat, water and muscle content is. If you haven't already, download the Mi Fit app from the Play Store. To use Mi Fit, it's good to have a Our account, which is essential for Xiaomi gadgets. Once Mi fit is up and you're logged into your Mi account, all you have to do is pair the scale.
Open the Mi fit app.
Click on the Profile menu on the bottom right.
On the next page, tap "+ Add a device".
Select the Balance Sheet / Body Composition Balance Sheet tool
If we agree to all the above data being added to our account and of course find out the harsh reality, then click Accept.
Step on the scale to record the first reading and add our initial weight to our Account for pairing.
If the pairing is successful, you can see the status of your balance, Firmware version, BT address. If the scale is used more than once, the Mi fit can aggregate the successive measurements.

When you're all set and have the scale to hand, don't forget to set your baseline data in your profile for more accurate measurements. On the main page you can see our total data, weight, total score, body fat percentage, muscle mass and body water percentage.
By tapping on the Test score, you can see all the data calculated by the balance. Mi Fit gives you advice on how to get a more ideal body based on the data measured.
The Mi fit app is essential to use the Scale, it only syncs when the app is running and Bluetooth is on. The readings are fast and correct, although the pictures above would show the readings of an Adonis muscle chirp, there must be a problem! :D Paired with a MiBand 2 bracelet, it's a great companion for anyone, especially if you're an athlete, but also very useful for the average person.
