After a long wait, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 5 in India on 14 February. The mid-range model was unveiled along with the Redmi Note 5 Pro, but with different specifications (a rebranded version of the Redmi Note 5 Plus in China). Although the Redmi Note 5 was highly anticipated before the launch, the device may only play second fiddle after the Redmi Note 5 Pro was announced, with a better configuration and dual rear camera. The camera of the Redmi Note 5 Pro has become India's favourite, no wonder it was snapped up in 3 minutes (along with the Redmi Note 5)
The Chinese are also very much looking forward to both models, for which there is no information on their availability. But that seems to be over, an employee has broken the silence.
In a recent Weibo post, Xiaomi's head of smartphone product marketing hinted that the Redmi Note 5 will arrive in China soon. He then raised an interesting aspect, "it will arrive with a camera surprise".
We wouldn't be surprised if the camera on the Chinese version of the Redmi Note 5 is different from the Indian version. In previous models (e.g. Redmi Note 4), there were also models with different sensors (Samsung, OV).
A reminder: the Redmi Note 5 has a 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and 1.25 μm pixel size. It has features such as fast autofocus and PDAF. Its front camera is 8MP, which is capable of capturing high quality shots even in low light. All this with LED flash support and Beauty 3.0. We are curious to see what will be the surprise on the camera front. :)
Perhaps dual camera, higher resolution?
The change would also be logical for the Redmi Note 5, as it is no different from the Redmi 5 Plus, which would cause confusion in sales.
