The era of mobile platform laptops has not yet arrived, with the market dominated by the sole Intel/AMD duo. Qualcomm's processor for desktop solutions is the latest Snapdragon 835, which powers the current flagships. The most powerful SoC currently available has proven to be Microsoft's best choice and has also provided adequate Windows support.

Two new players are rumoured to have already joined Qualcomm's Snapdragon laptop manufacturing team and this can only mean good things for us users. Xiaomi and Samsung, which have high hopes for this particular market segment in the future.

The news comes after last week's Snapdragon Technology Summit, where two SD835 laptops were unveiled: the ASUS NovaGo and the HP Envy x2 running Windows 10. The two devices are expected to be officially available next spring, with Qualcomm (and Microsoft) asking for more time to optimize their performance. According to an official announcement at the summit last week, the new laptops will be able to better perform with limited power consumption and full 4G/LTE integration.

The two new manufacturers (Samsung and Xiaomi) are expected to launch new laptops next year, using Qualcomm chips to create very thin, light and always-on machines that could debut eSIM technology. With Snapdragon 845 coming next year, we can expect even more powerful always-connected 4G LTE laptops in the second half of 2018.

The always connected 4G LTE laptop

That's the name Qualcomm gave to the project launched a week ago in partnership with Microsoft. The Snapdragon 835 brings you the ability to connect to any service provider in the world, at any frequency, thanks to the X16 modem, not to mention the performance and power consumption of the processor. Paired with Windows 10 (after proper optimisation), the laptop is the birth of the best portable platform. Imagine your laptop no longer having to wait for Wifi, sit somewhere, or share your phone's mobile network anywhere you can pull out your computer anytime and go to work, play games, watch movies, etc. Thanks to Snapdragon, these platforms share the workload of the processor, DSP and graphics processing unit (GPU) across the entire system for greater efficiency and battery life. Their platforms also integrate Qualcomm Wi-Fi technology, which is designed to transfer data quickly before returning to sleep mode, so laptops use less power.

You could say, of course, there have been BT key tablet solutions before, even with Windows OS, but this is going to be very different. If there were ultra-thin laptops before, now there are giga-thin ones, or I don't know how to put it. In a full-fledged case, with decent connectors found on the average devices that already define the thickness, because you don't need more than the well-known Mi Pad series. So it'll be connector-thick, with a huge battery capacity, with enough power for everyday use. Very much anticipated!!!!
