It seems that Xiaomi has entered the big manufacturers, LG, Samsung, Apple, etc., who have Qi charging technology lined up.

Qi is an open interface standard that defines the wireless transfer of energy by inductive charging within 4 cm (1.6 inches) of developed by the Wireless Power Consortium. The system uses a charging pad and a compatible device, which is placed on top of the pad and charged by resonant inductive coupling.

Mobile device manufacturers that work with standard devices include Apple, Asus, HTC, Huawei, LG Electronics, Motorola Mobility, Nokia, Samsung, BlackBerry, Sony and now Xiaomi. As of 14 July 2016, Qi Wireless Charging included more than 140 smartphones, tablets and other devices with Qi technology charging their batteries, according to the Qi Devices List.

Xiaomi has not yet issued a statement, but its name is already on the list of consortium members! This probably means we'll see Qi wireless charging in the next Xiaomi Mi 7, but it might just be a wireless heating MiJia mug that comes out first! :D It could have already been used on the Xiaomi Mi6, as a Qi receiver unit could have easily fit under the thin glass back of the phone and charged it.

It's certain that it will use the technology in the future, in Mi7 for sure, but in the meantime it could be used in many other devices. We need a punchy answer to the recently unveiled iPhone X, and we'll get it next year. Or this year in the Redmi 5?
