Viber introduces two-factor, two-factor authentication, which provides extra protection for the user's account.

For those who are familiar with data protection and information security, the concept of two-factor authentication (2FA) is certainly not unfamiliar, where the user needs to know something else in addition to the usual username and password to log in to the system. In recent years, more and more online companies have opted to implement 2FA, most recently with Rakuten, owner of Viber, announcing that makes available two-step identification, where users can enter a six-digit PIN and confirm their email address.

In practice, this will mean that when logging in from a mobile or computer device, the user will need to enter a username and password, as well as a code to verify their identity. In the event that the user forgets the code, they can request the necessary information by sending an email to the email address provided.

Viber is also said to be working on introducing built-in biometric identification, whereby users can access their account after fingerprint or facial recognition identification. This is already available in WhatsApp chat under Meta.

The Google announced last year that it would introduce two-factor authentication for all accounts to ensure the security of users' data. This means that when you log in to the website, you will no longer just need a username and password, but will also receive a text message to the phone number you have previously provided to confirm whether you are the account user trying to log in, or vice versa: the mobile notification will confirm that you are the account user.
