Less than two days after the mission, composed entirely of private astronauts, returned to Earth, SpaceX has launched four more astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS).

For the fourth time, SpaceX's Crew Dragon spacecraft, called Freedom, will carry a crew to the ISS. For Freedom The space capsule is named after the vehicle (Freedom 7) which in May 1961 made astronaut Alan Shepard the first American to fly into space. Shepard was nearly three weeks behind Yuri Gagarin of Russia, the first man in space.

One of the interesting things about the Crew-4 mission is that it is the first NASA mission where men and women can participate in equal numbers. The mission participants are American astronauts Kjell Lindgren, Robert Hines and Jessica Watkins, and Italian (ESA) astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti. Jessica Watkins is the first woman of colour to undertake such a mission.

Astronauts are scheduled to spend six months on the ISS, where they will carry out 200 different experiments. The previous Crew-3 mission is expected to return to Earth a week after the arrival of the new crew.
