Information is coming in about Redmi's upcoming flagship phone, not just rumours, official posters have been released. The first was about the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset, the latter about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. So which one will be in which phone? Qualcomm in the Redmi K50 and MediaTek in the Redmi K50 Pro?

When the first poster came out, I did some research on this new proc and it turned out to be better than Qualcomm's new wonder. At the time I had no idea that this was not all, because the exact type was not specified. Just that it's K50 series. Then this came along:

And to our surprise, this morning we were greeted by this poster on Redmi's Weibo page, advertising the coolest 8 Gen 1 phone ever. It will also get the new 120 W fast charging technology like the Xiaomi 12 Pro. It will charge a 4,700 mAh battery in 17 minutes like the 11T Pro and this massive heat will be handled by this phone the best in the market.

The question is, which will now get the Pro label, the better processor or the better cooling? Is the Pro with MediaTek processor better in that it has slightly better performance, generates less heat and is cheaper? Or vice versa, will the SD8 Gen 1 be the Pro, because it will have lower temperatures even with that kind of performance, compared to other phones?

If we take the Chinese info into account, the Redmi K50 will be with MTK processor and the Redmi K50 Pro with Snappi. According to the 3C certificate, the Redmi K50, along with Dimensity 9000, will get a 5,400 mAh battery with 67 W wired fast charging. Of course, a pre-installed MIUI 13 will greet Chinese fans and maybe a few home fans. The Pro version with SD8 Gen 1 processor could rival the Xiaomi 12 globally, but there's no question which one Chinese buyers will choose. While Xiaomi's main strike is against Apple and our wallets, Redmi holds the top of the mid-range and affordable flagship level.

The Redmi K50 series is due to launch in February, but unfortunately no exact date has been revealed. It's likely to be from the second week onwards, the first week being the Spring celebrations. We'll be back with more details as soon as we have them!
