The Qualcomm announced that it will host a new event in China on 20 May this year. Although details of the event have not been disclosed, the company is expected to unveil its new Qualcomm Snapdragon series processors, such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.
The company is likely to announce two new smartphone chipsets:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus
The chip promises to be Qualcomm's first mid-range processor with a new naming convention that will first be used in the high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-was shown on. While the 8-series chip is found in almost all current flagship Android smartphones, the upcoming 7-series processor is expected to make its way to more premium mid-range devices in the coming months.
According to rumours and leaks, the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 will use ARM Cortex A710 and Cortex A510 cores. Which are clocked at 2.3 GHz and 1.8 GHz respectively. Along with this, the Adreno 662 GPU will also be integrated.
On the other hand, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus is, as the name suggests, an improved version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. Instead of Samsung's 4 nm process, it is based on TSMC's 4 nm process.
Previous leaks have indicated that the chipset has a 1+3+4 core configuration, including a 2.99 GHz Cortex X2 prime core. It also reportedly comes with three Cortex A710 cores and four Cortex A510 cores.
