The Perseverance rover has managed to shake off the annoying stones that were in his instrument during the last days of December, while collecting samples.

The problem occurred on 29 December when the Mars rover failed to place the samples perfectly in the designated collection tube and debris was found where it should not have been. This posed a serious challenge for the experts, as there was a risk that failure to remove the debris could jeopardise the success of future sampling.

It didn't help that this was the first time researchers had encountered this type of problem, so it was only after much deliberation that they decided how to save the structure. Finally, on 12 January started the implementation of the plan, after certain safety tasks had been carried out, a message was sent to the robot to disperse the most recently collected rock samples from container 261. As there was still some debris left in the container, the impact drilling function of the device was used to shake the container, which eventually spilled all the rocks, and the container containing the sample containers was turned to remove the rocks that had caused the failure.

The mission was finally successful, and the data received show that there is nothing to stop the rover from continuing its successful sample collections on Mars.

The Perseverance rover is part of NASA's exploration programme. Launched in July 2020, the vehicle landed in the Jezero crater last February with the aim of studying the geology and climate history of the celestial body to provide evidence of the find that life existed on the red planet.
