We see it almost daily as a recurring problem, many people are not aware of what ROM they actually have on their phone.

A brief summary of the MIUI versions available.

First, the most common versions:
China is stable: English/Chinese language, Chinese services, ignores all Google services/apps, variable update (sometimes 2 weeks, sometimes up to 2 months), install with any recovery, open/closed bootloader too.

China's developers: English/Chinese language, Chinese services, bypasses all Google services/apps, weekly update, install with any recovery, open/closed bootloader too.

Global stable: Many languages, including Hungarian (from 8.1.X.X), no Chinese services/apps, includes Google services/apps, variable update, install with any recovery, open/closed bootloader.

Global developers: About 1 month of continuous improvement, community translation based Hungarian language (95+ percent, continuous improvement week by week), no Chinese services/apps, includes Google services/apps, weekly update, install with any recovery, open/closed bootloader too.

These 4 types belong to the factory ROM category and can be downloaded from http://en.miui.com/download.html from the side. OTA is available for all types. Be prepared that it will most likely lock back the open bootloader!

MIUIHU: ROM in full Hungarian, with translations by orula. No Chinese apps, Google services/apps, some exclusive additions compared to Chinese/global ROMs. Generally weekly update, a few days after the release of the factory ROMs. Downloadable here, usually there is OTA update. Install ONLY with TWRP recovery, only with open bootloader (depending on device, open bootloader does not lock back), with phone version number indicating MIUIHU.

MULTI ROM: Many languages, including Hungarian for most devices, with some translations. Without Chinese apps, there are Google services/apps. Weekly updates, a few days after the factory ROMs are released. Available for download from http://xiaomi.eu, no OTA update anymore. Installation ONLY with TWRP recovery, only with open bootloader (depending on device, it does not reset already open bootloader), with phone version number marked xiaomi.eu.

WEBSHOP is supplied by ROM: here's the problem! No updates, Hungarian usually only partially or not at all. Potential source of all kinds of malicious stuff, Chinese/Google services usually mixed. In Hungarian, about nothing is guaranteed.

MIUI version numbering

There are basically two types of MIUI version numbers, stable and developer.
Stable: ALWAYS 4 digits! Formatted like this: X.Y.Z.0
X=MIUI major version
Y=MIUI alversion
Z=number of issues
The last number is always zero.
Example: 7.3.2.0 = MIUI 7.3, second release, 8.0.1.0 = MIUI 8, first release.
The easiest way to identify WEBSHOP slugs is by their version number. Usually it is 5 digits instead of 4 (e.g. 7.1.1.0.0), or it does not formally conform to the above rule (e.g. 7.1.99.99, 77.22.88.00).

Developer ROM: always 3 digits long, basically indicating the date.
Formally it looks like this: X.Y.ZZ
X= last digit of year (5=2015, 6=2016)
Y=month
ZZ=day
Example: 6.8.25 = 25 August 2016 development ROM

In short, that's it. If you don't know what ROM is on your phone, this will help you to get your bearings, mostly to identify the tabbed/puked things.
Once you have the origin of the ROM, you know where to turn for help. If it's a multi ROM, http://xiaomi.eu is the primary place to look for help, if it's a factory ROM, http://en.miui.com forum, if MIUIHU, then http://miui.en
