Xiaomi expanded further its Mi 8 series. At 8 Hungarian time a launch event took place in Beijing where several products were unveiled including two new Mi 8 variants. Mi 8 Lite, the rival for Mi 8 SE features a similar hardware but bigger screen, aims definitely at the younger generation with its favourable price and new colour options.

Mi 8 Lite comes with a 6.26″ Full HD+ screen with 2561 x 1080 pixels resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. There is a notch at the top of the display in the same way as in case of Mi 8, Mi 8 SE, Poco F1 or Mi 8 Explorer Edition. The device is powered by a Qualcomm octa-core Snapdragon AIE processor with Adreno 512 GPU. The chipset is made with 14 nm FinFET technology.  We could see that first in Mi Note 3.

The phone comes in three variants: 4GB RAM with 64GB storage, 6GB RAM with 64GB storage and 6GB RAM with 128GB storage.

The camera has been developed compared to that of Mi 8 SE. We can take selfies  with a front 24MP camera including Sony IMX576 sensor and f/2.2 aperture. It supports AI based functions. It has a new generation AI Smart Beauty technology called ‘AI Makeup Beauty’. It also supports AI Beauty during video recording as well.

It has horizontally aligned dual rear cameras. The dual camera also has AI features. The large pixel primary sensor comes with a 12MP sensor while the secondary with a 5MP and an aperture of f/1.9. The camera supports the insity of background blurring (bokeh). The object identification has two new AI scenes: Beach and Under Water (for photos in an aquarium or under water photos through glass).

In terms of connectivity we get the compulsory 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 and GPS. Android Oreo-based MIUI10 is also common and for 24-hour stable use a 3350 mAh battery is responsible with quick charge support.

It is the first time that Xiaomi has offered gradient colour variants. We can choose from 3 colour options at once: Dream Blue, Twilight Gold and Black.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite 4+64GB variant costs 1,399 yuan (about 75-80,000 Ft), the 6+64GB varian costs 1,699 yuan (about 90,000 Ft), 6+128 GB variant 1,999 yuan, which is about 107,000 Ft in Hungary.
Distribution starts on 25 September in China.
