Xiaomi today announced that Xiaomi and Leica have laid the foundation for a global strategic imaging collaboration, integrating centuries of legendary imaging and innovative technology, and ushering in a new era of mobile imaging.




In response to an email inquiry, according to information obtained by Android Authority, a Huawei representative provided the following response:

We can confirm that the cooperation between our two companies ended on 31 March

Despite this, the Huawei P50 series, which was released worldwide earlier this year, was the last Huawei phone to feature the Leica logo. Huawei and Leica first worked together in 2016 to develop the P9 series. Then the Mate 9 series, which is based on Leica algorithm-adapted image adjustment, colour mode, portrait photography, will be familiar to most mobile phone users.

The On Xiaomi Weibo shared Xiaomi CEO with details of the announcement, clearly indicating the launch of their first joint product.

"What difference will the collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica make in mobile imaging? We'll see the first work in July!"

Judging from the content of the post, they are jointly developing a flagship smartphone. It also marks another cross-border mobile imaging collaboration for the German imaging company, following Sharp, Huawei and Panasonic.

In this context Xiaomi CEO, founder, chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group, said, "Xiaomi and Leica share the same ambitions and vision and value each other's strengths and industry influence. This collaboration will give a strong boost to Xiaomi's imaging strategy. Throughout the collaboration, from optical design to setting aesthetic orientation, the innovative technologies, product philosophies and imaging concepts of both parties have experienced an unprecedented depth of collision and integration."

Matthias Harsch, CEO of Leica Camera AG, said, "I am very honoured to announce a long-term strategic partnership with Xiaomi. Both Xiaomi and Leica are global premium brands and in this unprecedented deep collaboration, both parties are committed to creating a new business model for mobile photography users. A new era. We believe that the first jointly developed imaging flagship phone will reveal our future-facing innovation."

Judging from previous news and rumours, it's no surprise that the first product of this collaboration is the soon-to-be-released Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra, so stay tuned!
