I've seen quite a few times, browsing the forums, that not everyone likes the ping-pong-pong sized phones that are coming out these days, and asking for help in finding someone who can tell me about a non-fancy size. Back when the first Samsung Galaxy Note was released in 2011, its 5.3-inch display was considered huge. Back in 2016, when I bought a Redmi Note 3, I looked at it and thought, my goodness, how big is that 5.5-inch panel. Now I'm using an almost 6.4 inch Mi 9, which is considered completely average at that size. Of course, the truth is that the aspect ratio has changed in the meantime, the bezels have got smaller and smaller, so a smaller phone can fit a bigger screen, but the fact is that over the years phones have got bigger and bigger, and with that people's hands have got bigger... No, they haven't got bigger, they've stayed the same, it's just that most people have got used to it and hold the phone in a different place, or occasionally use it with two hands. However, there is a layer of people who are also forced to do so, but who cannot really accept or like the situation.

In the Xiaomi house, there are 2 phones left lately that are higher-end and smaller in size. The top model of 2017, the Mi 6, and one of the Mi 9's smaller siblings, the Mi 9 SE.

Recently, Redmi's CEO Lu Weibing posted a good news on his official Weibo page.

So Redmi is planning a small smartphone, but the size may mean that the battery will be smaller than usual. In the current smartphone market, 1 full day of battery life is already expected, even if it starts at 5am and ends at 10pm. So if you have a smaller battery, you have to work a lot on software and optimisation to achieve this.

While I'm not a fan of conspiracy theories, it's clear as day that this is meant to be a reaction to the recently debuted mini variant of the iPhone 12 series.

With a 4780 mAh battery in the Mi 10, a 3070 mAh battery in the Mi 9 SE and a 2227 mAh battery in the iPhone 12 mini, it's clear to see that the smaller the phone, the smaller the battery.

I think there is a place for small smartphones in the market and I'm looking forward to seeing what Redmi can bring to the concept.
