In India, the Mi6 will not be the big launch for Xiaomi this year, but...

The news has come from India Today that Xiaomi will not be selling its recently released super phone, the Xiaomi Mi6, in India!

We wonder why Xiaomi has decided not to launch the Mi 6, given that India is its second most important market. The majority of Xiaomi's mobile launches in India are limited to the Redmi, but Xiaomi still ensures that it releases one flagship phone a year in the country. Last year's model was the Mi 5, but it didn't generate much sales as the OnePlus 3 offered more RAM and storage.

Former Xiaomi VP Hugo Barra was even credited when he said that "it was a mistake not to bring the results of the 64 gig Xiaomi Mi 5 to India". He said the company should not have worried about pricing and should have launched the Mi 5 Prime phone in India. Xiaomi has decided not to bring more flagships because it will be too expensive to sell in India and for a company that is moving cautiously in a relatively new market, it doesn't want to take such risks. The Mi 5 is the only Xiaomi phone sold in India that is not made in India.

Import taxes and advertising costs are part of the factors that influence the price of a flagship product imported into the country. The Mi 5 is currently available on Flipkart for Rs 22 999, which is around $360. The Mi 5s (64 GB model) can be bought for more or less the same price from a store like Giztop.

Xiaomi is working on the Mi Note 3 and Mi MIX 2. Either of the two products could be the high-end phone that lands in India, but it looks like the Mi Note 3 is the more likely choice. If they are to compete against OnePlus again, it will be a large phone with a similar price tag, but not one that is likely to have a higher price tag than the Mi MIX 2.
